Who was that who nearly wiped out the safety car? (ah... just seen Schumi's post... Liuzzi) Well I'm pretty sure it was, and that's what the graphic said, but they are claiming on the BSF it was Scott Speed. I'm scared to post on it now though. There seems to be a lot of F1 fans who have revealed themselves since I've stopped posting there so much.

Still sniggering my arse off at Rons face as he recieved the trophy off of MS either that or he was laughing at his shirt! Maybe the best moment of the entire race. I think Ron was pointing out to Michael the finishing order of the first two cars All the best Rob

Def Liuzzi who nearly took out the pace car then backed it into the telelift, Speed ended up in the tyre wall and nearly hit Hamilton. Incredible presence of mind from Lewis to keep his engine running and bank on the red flag, then blew it like a rank amatuer with that extraordinary tyre choice, in fact I'm surprised the team let him go with it. Good race all round, Alonso drove like a demon (not sure where all this 'tyre banging' comes from though, looked distinctly like tyre marks on the McLaren sidepod to me), Massa I thought caved in under pressure (again!), can't say it was bad luck for Hamilton, he drove fantastically well to get where he did, but that rookie decision let him down badly; still, he's still learning.

And despite he finished out of the points, a spellbinding drive for Hamilton. Everything that could go wrong for him did this weekend, but he just doesn't give up, and finished just a second outside of the points. Well it was a rather odd decision to take dry tyres after all the luck he'd had. He was lucky to race after the accident, lucky to not damage his car when he spun off, lucky no other cars hit him, lucky the race was stopped, and I must have missed the rule that says you can unlap yourself under the safety car. Everyone says about Schumacher's determination to win, but what about Hamilton keeping the engine running while being taken out of the gravel trap by a great big crane thing!! For moment he race is over, the next thing he's back in!! Rob, what was your take on it when Schumacher had a helping hand to get back on at the same track in 2003? Your posts at the BSF don't go far back enough. Be honest now!

Def Liuzzi who nearly took out the pace car then backed it into the telelift Yeah, I think I'll refrain from pointing out JimmyD and 21st ch's mistakes. Glad I was right though. ;D

Glad I was right though. ;D Well, unless they've both dramatically changed their helmet designs recently (although Liuzzi does now have some green stripes that used to be red) then it's not hard to spot the difference.

Rule book says it was illegal. From www.planetf1.com The debate about whether Lewis Hamilton should have been permitted to continue in the European GP after being lifted out of the gravel by a Nurburgring crane has taken a new - and apparently decisive twist - after a study of the rule-book. The issue has dominated the P-F1 Mailbox and Forum since Sunday, with several readers outraged at the help afforded to the Englishman. However, while it was thought that Hamilton's good fortune was legal on the basis that a driver could seek assistance if he was deemed to be in a dangerous position, closer inspection of the 2007 F1 regulations - as requested by mailboxer Gareth Bouch from London - provides an entirely different conclusion. To quote paragraph 6.1, Chapter III of appendix H from the FIA Formula One World Championship Regulations: 'If a car stops: If a car stops on the course, or leaves the track, the first duty of the course marshals in that sector is to take it to a place of safety. 'No driver has the right to refuse to allow his car to be taken off the track, he must do everything he can to help and obey the marshals' instructions. Once the car is in a place of safety the driver may, if the specific regulations of the event permit, work on it in order to re-start. In such cases other means, such as breakdown vehicles, cranes, etc. should not be brought into action until the driver has made it clear that he will not continue. [P-F1's bolding] It is desirable that the driver stays near his vehicle until the end of the race or at least informs the post chief how his car may be lifted, or towed back to the pits.' Ultimately, the issue was academic as Hamilton finished out of the points despite being lifted back on the track, while the FIA continue to insist that the action was legal. "We are extremely happy with what happened," spokesman Richards Woods told The Times. "He was in a dangerous spot - he kept his engine running and the quickest and easiest way, under the circumstances, to get him and the car out of the way was to get him back on the track and get him going again and, as far as we are concerned, that was fine." However, in a separate twist, the newspaper claims that 'Lewis was at one point being told by the marshalls at Turn 1 to get out of his car and get himself to safety', and that, rather than heed the request, not only did he remain in the car but 'Lewis was gesturing to the marshalls to get the crane, organising people to his advantage.'

'Lewis was gesturing to the marshalls to get the crane, organising people to his advantage.' Proof that this young man is very much a winner. Of course, if it had been Schumacher, I'd be spitting feathers! ;D ;D ;D All the best Rob

In such cases other means, such as breakdown vehicles, cranes, etc. should not be brought into action until the driver has made it clear that he will not continue. [P-F1's bolding]
That looks like the contentious bit. Unusual for F1 rules, that could be interpreted as saying that, in Hamilton's case, as he had no need to make any repairs he could concentrate on the 'getting the car to a place of safety' bit, the safest place being back on the track. As we know, the rules were changed some time ago to allow marshalls to help a car back onto the track if it's engine is still running and it's deemed to be dangerously placed, however, I suppose it depends on whether you think the spirit of that rule change has been broken by extending the level of help from a push to getting a crane! Would've been one almighty row if he'd scored any points!!!!!!!!
