What did i say a while back about him not being happy with the B.S.P.A. Their are certain issues regarding funding for the youngsters that Peter has been livid about, he'd said so on the radio forum back in November.

There you go jacques: www.speedwaystar.net/and Chris' response to the job offer: Louis turns down GB Manager's job. . . « Thread Started on Today at 2:32pm » -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CHRIS Louis has turned down the chance to manage the Great Britain speedway side. Evening Star Witches skipper Louis was asked by the British Speedway Promoters' Association to take charge of the Great Britain side on a caretaker basis this season. But he has reluctantly had to turn the job down, a job relinquished by Poole's Neil Middleditch last week. “It is nice to be asked, but quite honestly I am not able to give it 100 per cent,” Louis said.
“I would also need 100 per cent backing and I'm not saying I wouldn't get that, but really it is a job that requires 100 per cent. And at this moment in time I'm not able to give that with what I have on at Ipswich.” Certainly the fact Louis has been considered for the role is a fillip for the Evening Star Witches skipper, who is being included more and more in the future of the sport. However at yesterday's press and practice day, Louis was more interested in the hopes of the 2008 Evening Star Witches than the Great Britain job. And he is confident it will be a better year than 2007. “Last season we had a good bunch of lads, but to be perfectly honest language difficulties didn't help,” Louis said.

Good on Chris for doing the right thing. I'd say that his name will be top of the sheet next time it comes up then, assuming he's retired by then of course!

A very honest interview I must admit which gave a massive insight into why things aren't succeeding. Methinks Oakes would be the first to admit that he inherited far too much on himself.
With the right backing and this has his sole job, he'll be ideal for some kind of youth co-ordinator role.

Sounds like the same lack of funding that Middlo had to battle against. They want the kudos without having to pay for it. Sounds like speedway in the UK all over.

Would I stand a chance if I applied? You have to be a better choice than Roscoe, so you probably would have a chance

Just read in the preview of Speedway Star, that Peter Oakes has quit as under 21 TM From the Islanders' press release: Wightlink Islanders boss Dave Croucher has been appointed the British Under 21 team manager in a one year deal and will work with former World Champion Mark Loram and ex-Wolverhampton star Graham Jones under co-ordinator Graham Reeve, the head of the Speedway Control Bureau. Speaking of his appointment a delighted Croucher enthused, "Being a very patriotic soul, I'm both extremely proud indeed and thrilled to be given this opportunity of playing a major role in helping to put Great Britain Speedway back on top of the world at Under 21 level. Working alongside Mark and Graham who I'm sure will do a brilliant job on the coaching side to really help bring on the excellent crop of youngsters we have coming through and Graham Reeve taking care of the administration is a dream come true really. "Helping to coach the youngsters with Jonah suits Mark fine because he's got to have more treatment on his inured leg that is prevent him from racing at the moment and he can't commit to a full-time situation. I'm confident I can do the business in terms of my responsibilities under the set up and I'm really looking forward to the challenges ahead and I'll be getting straight down to work.

Just to clarify what I was told earlier, Dave Croucher, Jonah and Mark will share the responsibility under Graham Reeve - Crouch wishes to make that clear. Islanders' press release:
Speaking of his appointment within the British Under 21 set up, a delighted Wightlink Islanders team manager Dave Croucher enthused, "It is a great honour for anyone to represent their country and I am very proud to be a part of the Team GB setup for 2008. We now need to instill in these young riders, exactly that same belief if we are going to make a fresh start to putting British Speedway back on top at Under 21 level, that it is an honour and a great privilege to ride for Great Britian. "I think the whole idea of a "Team style" management setup is exactly what we need at the moment, and from all aspects, from rider coaching to administration, we could not have a better team than Mark Loram, Graham Jones and Graham Reeve. "There is no doubt that Mark and Graham will do a superb job on the coaching side and I am comfortable that I can contribute and pull my weight at managerial level. It is so important that we continue to help bring on the excellent crop of youngsters we have coming through, and to have Graham Reeve taking care of the administration is a dream, because that is where so much of the time goes. "We have a fresh team with a fresh approach, and I hope that some of the enthusiasm of the new management setup will rub off on these talented young riders and that they will stop thinking that GB stands for 'gone bad', and that as of now, it stands for GETTING BETTER. "I have always had a strong belief that if you feel you are second best, that is where you will stay, and only a full belief that you CAN be the best in the World will get you there."

Sounds good to me, how true his saying GB stands for "gone bad" lol . The future looks much brighter on the U21 front anyway, perhaps Jim Lynch may have the same approach. GB = "Got better" ( oh I hope so)
