another update... thanks to the bspa, certain clubs and my current circumstances I'm taking another break this year... wouldn't call it retirement again, cause the dream is still there... but with an average like this and no financial backing... I can't see myself returning to proper racing.... but thanks for all the support and sympathy everyone...

Are you eligible to ride in the Conference League? You would think so because you live and work in Britain.

Well I think it is awful that a keen young rider can't get a team place. Someone must be able to do something! Hi Herman

Yes but presumably all the riders with team spots are also keen, though some might not be as young as Hermie.Thing is to keep going.Do second halfs and open meetings and maybe a place will become available and a team need a rider quickly. Then you are on the spot and ready for action. You could always give Nordhastedt a ring and see if they have a place for you in their meeting

Norbert Magosi, a Hungarian, was signed by Berwick on a 7.00 average but since Thursday he has a 5.00. The BSPA re-assessed this even though he has rode in 9 meetings for PETERBOROUGH, ELITE LEAGUE in 2004. So Henning is stuck on 7.00 for doing TWO meetings in Denmark in 2002.

I personally don't think any foreign riders should be allowed into the Premier League on an average of less than 9.00. It should be an almost-exclusively British league. So I won't be signing the petition. Sorry.

The New National league of the 70's had Aussies and New Zealanders . And Henning seems to have made this country his home , which should count for something .

Magosi's had his average changed to 5.00 - but wrongly in my opinion. And two wrongs don't make a right. I'm just very concerned at recent trends, especially the rule which now allows one Commonwealth rider into each Conference League side. Where will it all end? In my mind, the Conference League should be exclusively British, while Premier League teams should have one or two foreign riders at the most. Even the Elite League teams should have three or four Brits in each team.

And secondly, at a rough estimate I reckon there's circa 60 "foreign" riders likely to be riding in this year's PL - how would you replace them?

Well, personally I wouldn't mind seeing women riders in figure-hugging kevlars, but I feel we're starting to stray from the point. ;D

Bryn, of course it can't be done overnight - but the minimum number of Brits in each team should be increased on a season-by-season basis until it stands as five in the Premier League and three in the Elite League. And don't start quoting EU Law because it's a closed system and that doesn't apply. Poland have restrictions on foreign riders and they are an EU country. And really any foreign riders in the Premier League should be established heat-leaders - why should we bring on any countries foreign talent for them - you can better your bottom dollar they wouldn't do it in reverse. No wonder they are hardly any lads (or lasses) wanting to ride in second halves these days - their opportunites have been taken away. EDIT: Jacques - back on track now. FURTHER EDIT: Well, we were.
