Belle Vue have responded to this news with the following quote on their official web site.
Belle Vue bosses say they are fully aware of speculation regarding the possible sale of their home at the greyhound stadium in Kirkmanshulme Lane. GRA Ltd, a company owned by Channel 4 TV chairman Luke Johnson's Risk Capital Partners, is looking at bids for its tracks at Belle Vue, Wimbledon, Portsmouth and Oxford as well as Hall Green and Perry Barr in Birmingham. David Gordon said: "As far as we are concerned it is business as usual but we will keep monitoring the situation."

Everyone welcomes money - I don't think it will be much of a problem.
It's hard sell anyway - anyone want to take on an downsliding pastime which is breakdown because of animal cruelty rules?

I'm not sure most people who go to the dogs give a thought about their welfare. The popularity of the dogs seems to change with the seasons. Only a couple of years ago, Oxford stadium seemed to be running them almost every night of the week, now they're saying times are hard. Unfortunately, Oxford Stadium is in a prime location for housing, so the prospects don't look good if the GRA aren't interested in selling their facilities as going concerns.

Good point - Maybe we might see a few Plough Lane situations?

who runs the dog racing at Coventry?...They seem to hardly get anyone through the doors. Personally I wouldn't be sorry to see it go.

I often find myself watching some races in there when I am putting a coupon on (often seeing whether a Speedway track can be fitted in or seeing a track I haven't on telly before). It's not functional as just a spectator sport. The crowds are sparse and it's only the shownights in the week which fill the place up.

...so the prospects don't look good if the GRA aren't interested in selling their facilities as going concerns. I would guess the GRA will sell to the highest bidder whether their intentions are to continue the business as a going concern or sell off one or more of the sites. As others have said if planning issues can be overcome then the GRA is worth more by selling off the land for development than as a continuing business

Sandhu sold the greyhound operation to Malcolm Wright, so only owns the stadium and the licence to run speedway, stock cars and bangor racing I also heard that the food and drink outlets were also sold as a franchise so no monies from these go back into Coventry Speedway. The greyhounds bring in additional revenue for the stadium, so I would be happy for them to continue.

It's not the revenue that I don't like it. I just don't agree with Greyhound Racing, but thats a different issue entirely.

Obiviously that's the part I can't see from the gogglebox.

BBC London must be short of news items today as they have been mentioning the possibility of AFC Wimbledon playing at Plough Lane. Now correct me if I'm wrong here (as if you would.... ) but if the present owners want £100 million for the 6 sites, then Wimbledon must be in the region of £25 milion alone.... does a non-league club have that money? ? Suppose it filled a few news bulletins.......
