Beaumont Leys is where it's all at. Heard of Blackbird Leyes I suppose Kevin? Well, it's a bit like that but with more grass on which they are hoping to build a speedway stadium and car park. Blackbird Lees, yeah I've heard of that - in fact I once walked through it and lived to tell the tale. All I can say is that if Leicester's Beaumont Leys is anything like Oxford's Blackbird Lees it's no wonder JC has had to include a youth rehabiliatation center into his plans.

Hi Hazzman, I registered this morning just so I could reply to your post. ;D I am inclined to agree with everything you have said, although I don't know any of the "ins and outs" because I'm not normally in touch with any of the people involved. (Well I might have been last night because it was so squashed.) It was worse in that room than the usual place they use on Fosse Road, but to be fair I don't think they had expected that many people to turn up. They were supposed to be moving over to The Blackbird pub at 9pm so perhaps one of the "leaders" spoke to the gathered masses then. All in all though it was a bit disappointing and I didn't stay very long as I was running out of oxygen. I picked up a copy of the plans and they do look very ambitious. Whether they get past the planning stage is another matter so I won't hold my breath at ever seeing a new track in Leicester before I kick the bucket. Cheers for the reply! I am actually quite warmed someone as managed to look at my post as constructive criticism rather than slagging off rant. I didn't feel a need for a public airing on BSF - that place can be a powerful tool in getting people to support your cause. I think people what have continued following Speedway in the modern day arena are bound to be cynical. As I say it needs a few fresh new faces. All the information is what I received from the various spokespeople of the supporters club. You have to be a somewhat of fresh faced know-it-all with grand plans and cashloads of money to get the council to work with you. I read with disappointment in the Mercury last night - the current existing Beaumont Park contains 3 football pitches and the FA/ Football Foundation have revealed plans to extend that to 7 football pitches and provide a big set of changing rooms. Kev, it's a similar estate to Blackbird Leys but it would be brilliantly placed for travellers from far and wide. It's just off the M1 and well serviced by buses. You could even get one from the train station to a bus stop which would be 5 minutes from the stadium. It would be like a much more scaled down East Of England Showground with loads more on offer.

Heard some bad news in the office regarding location this afternoon.
The FA want to build a set of changing rooms and make more football pitches than what exist on there. It seems they are in dialogue with them.

If this project goes tits up, Jonathan Champman's going to look a right flapperjack. I thought it was an ill advised move to make all the recent announcements prior to planning consent being given.
Let's hope that the undeniable support Leicester would get is taken into consideration and that the Lions will roar again though!!!

This is where the people behind the Cradley project have learnt valuable lessons I feel. Previously sites have been discussed (though not officially) before planning permission is even sought and a negative effect has been the result when nothing happens. With the current site nothing will be announced until the application goes in (hopefully soon) and all potential problems have been investigated. The local free rag has decided they know where the proposed site is and have generated all sorts of negative reactions from local councillors and residents, even though nothing has been said by the club or Tony Mole

Even now there is a suggestion of where the site is, the support which they built in the area remains. The annoucement of the site was through the Supporters club and it seems Chapman made a mistake in that sense.
