Jim Holder at #6 Harry and the challenge meeting is the 19th. Good luck for 2009! Here's the website for anyone who wants to have a look: www.thelionsareback.comGood to see the emphasis on youth development and getting kids off the street to do something constructive, and emphasis on the community aspects. Hopefully this will help with the council.

Jim Holder at #6 Harry and the challenge meeting is the 19th. It was the rush of blood to the head when I was getting excited. Anyways, I shall be there at KL - cheering on those honourary lions and also giving a firm shake of the hand to Jonny Chapman for using the phrase actions, speak louder than words.

I went to the Open Evening last night - I was bitterly disappointed. I thought I'd mention it here rather than the BSF as they don't like criticism.
The plans look good - but it seems far too ambitious. A track, BMX track, full football pitch, 12 5-aside pitches and a grandstand including a workshop, study centre and bar. The land is massive and to secure it and provide parking is going to be a probelm.
Talking to the supporters club, there is too much bitterness and distaste for them to have a relationship with the council. Silly comments like 'Political correctness might avoid this track being built'. They seem to think that the council is the same people with the same motives. The people what makes the decision are the councillors. If they haven't noticed the councillors have changed of late, Labour look after Leicester now. After years of trying with the council which were conversative and lib dem.
One of the fallacies of my job is seeing sites we looking after being left to waste and used as housing. Us people working for the decision makers would welcome more community bits n bobs.
Seemingly the idea is build a stadium and they will come. Seems to be a bit of bullshiting going on - they say council have been aware of plans for 2 months and my workmates say there has been no sign of any plans or invitation of a meeting. They seem to think that the council should come to them - not they go to the council.
No sign of local press - I hope Chapman is ahead of this supporters ground whose first 'desk' was that of paying a fiver for membership to the club. You need numbers and names - any money is going to put them off. The venue was that of a building hiring firm - when there is a pub with a funcition room across the road.
Hopefully Chapman can push on with this project with full co-operation with the 5-a-side firm who are buying the majority of the land. The supporters club who have found the site - from a 19 year old and 15 year old's opinion who have been brought up on modern day Speedway is a bunch of 40=something bloke's who are still bitter and still looking for something to do on Tuesday nights.
It needs more support and more get up and go about it. A more youthful luck with a bit more glamour might help. Instead of pleading for an article, plead for a feature in the newspaper. Rather than looking back, look at the future of Speedway.

Worthy of a post on it's own is Sudden Sam's attendance.
Fair play to him for turning up to give back to British Speedway. He's never really had a connection with Leicester but he deserves applauds for being there and being welcome to parts of weird conversation.

Hi Hazzman, I registered this morning just so I could reply to your post. ;D I am inclined to agree with everything you have said, although I don't know any of the "ins and outs" because I'm not normally in touch with any of the people involved. (Well I might have been last night because it was so squashed.) It was worse in that room than the usual place they use on Fosse Road, but to be fair I don't think they had expected that many people to turn up. They were supposed to be moving over to The Blackbird pub at 9pm so perhaps one of the "leaders" spoke to the gathered masses then. All in all though it was a bit disappointing and I didn't stay very long as I was running out of oxygen. I picked up a copy of the plans and they do look very ambitious. Whether they get past the planning stage is another matter so I won't hold my breath at ever seeing a new track in Leicester before I kick the bucket.

Now if Shilpa Shetty was riding they may have a chance

From the talk on this thread, I'm guessing that the proposed site has been revealed?
If so, can someone explain ( for someone who's not too familiar with Leicester) where it is please?

Yes and that's the only bit I know about Leicester as well...except if you use the M69 instead of the M1 you'll arrive in the village of the damned. Beaumont Leys is where it's all at. Heard of Blackbird Leyes I suppose Kevin? Well, it's a bit like that but with more grass on which they are hoping to build a speedway stadium and car park. Oh...and 12 outdoor 5 a side football pitches, closed road circuit, BMX track, full size football pitches, mountain bike trail, cycle speedway track, MiniMotos, motorcycle training school, an Education Centre......and breathe.
