I was just looking something up in Peter Oakes' excellent "Daily Mirror 1982 Speedway Yearbook" and came across an interesting piece in the "Around the World" section:
Poland
Falubaz Zielona Gora lost their Mickey Mouse tag when they won the Polish First Division Championship for the first time in the club's history. The club, whose club emblem is a Walt Disney style mouse motif, fought off a spirited challenge from nearest rivals Stal Gorzow as they ended the season in a blaze of glory - and points. Falubaz, led by surprise World Final Reserve Henryk Olszak and British League campaigner Andrzej Huszcza were always too strong for their opponents on their 365 metre home track and even though they only finished two points ahead of Stal they had a far more impressive race points total. They were less effected by the calls of the British League than Stal - team mates Edward Jancarz and Jerzy Rembas both joined Wimbledon although Rembas' British season was cut short by injury - and this was a vital factor in their historic success.
How times have changed. Now the call of Polish, Swedish and even the Czech league are impacting on the once mighty British scene. Some may kid themselves that British is still best, but in truth the British scene is living the decadent, depraved life of an aristocratic pauper.

By the way, remarkably Andrzej Huszcza is still riding, occasionally, for Poznan (after spending a truly remarkable thirty years with Zielona Gora) in Poland's Liga I - he reached the milestone age of 50 on March 3rd, 2007. Last I heard, he had no plans to retire any time soon.
