GREAT Britain boss Neil Middleditch has named his eleven-man squad for the World Cup - with an emphasis on youth. Middleditch has known since the first week of the season that he would be without former World Champion Mark Loram due to injury, and his team will again be led by Grand Prix regular Scott Nicholls. The basis of the squad involves riders who went well in the recent British Final, and the manager has some interesting decisions ahead as he nears on his final selections, which this year require six riders to be named for each meeting. Middleditch said: "The old guard have served me fantastically over the years and I'm grateful to all of them for doing what they have done riding for Great Britain while I have been team manager. "But they have all done their stuff and it is now time for the youngsters to step up to the plate. They are the future of British Speedway." GB SQUAD: Scott Nicholls (captain), Chris Harris, Lee Richardson, David Howe, Edward Kennett, Joe Screen, Simon Stead, Olly Allen, Richard Hall, Lewis Bridger, Daniel King. From: www.speedwayworld.tv

No surprises there, I guess. Except possibly the inclusion of Joe Screen. Why's he there? Anyway, no mistakes can be allowed in the Coventry meeting, or it'll be a mighty effort required to make the final. By common consent, the Coventry meeting is easier than the Vojens meeting and Team GB can't afford to miss out on a straight passage to the final. Denmark should easily negotiate a route straight to the final via Vojens, which, if Team GB don't produce the goods, willl leave them up against, potentially, Australia and Poland in the Leszno race-off. I'd expect to see a few changes in the Polish team between Vojens and Leszno, with track experts Krzyzstof Kasprzak and Damian Balinski making appearances at Leszno.

Just looked at the "Roll of Honour" for the SWC on speedwayworld.tv and was astonished to find that Poland's victory in 2005 didn't come, as I thought it had, in their homeland at Wroclaw, but at Poole. And Denmark's victory last season, which I thought had been achieved at Reading, was in fact achieved at Wroclaw in Poland. Don't believe me? Check it out: www.speedwayworld.tv/en/swc/a2595

And it seems that the managerial genius that is Middlo has already selected his team for the Coventry round of the SWC. And it's as follows:
S Nicholls C Harris L Richardson E Kennett S Stead D Howe (R)
The Poles have also selected their team for the Vojens round of the SWC, with manager Marek Cieslak naming the following riders:
T Gollob R Holta G Walasek J Hampel K Kasprzak D Balinski (R)
So, no place in the Polish team for GPer Wieslaw Jagus, with Cieslak citing uncertainty over Jagus' wrist injury as the reason. However, Cieslak hasn't ruled Jagus out of the race-off, which he believes Poland will find themselves in, or the final, both of which are held at Leszno in Poland.

Who from the Weird world is coming to the British Leg at Brandon? Myself and Couteau are going ( but we're fortunate enough to live near the Stadium) , as it's a Monday night it will be difficult for some, at least it's on Sky..

Just an update for anyone who hadn't seen that Olly Allen replaces David Howe who picked up a collarbone injury whilst riding at reserve in Lonigo.

It will be interesting to see who Middlo puts in at Brandon on Monday? Eddie struggled around Brandon again last night Someone was talking last night about the situation with the reserves. Can anybody tell me what the score is here..ie If the reserve comes into the Team do they have to be in for the whole meeting?

I think the reserve can only be used in the event of an injury to one of the main team. They can't be used otherwise.

Not sure you're right on that one schumi, I believe the non-riding reserve can replace another rider, but once he replaces someone, he must replace them in all their remaining rides. That's my understanding anyway, but not 100% sure.
