Mildenhall have reacted quickly to the news from New Zealand that their new capture Grant Tregoning’s departure has been delayed by visa requirements by adding a new signing and a new asset to their rider base.
The Kiwi Under 21 double champion should have arrived in the UK last Thursday but red tape over new rulings for visa that has hit several riders from Down Under and delayed their arrival on these shores has now hit the newest Fen Tiger signing. There is now a requirement for miometric test that involves fingerprinting and eyeology tests to be undertaken to be able to enter the UK. Tregoning was unaware of these when he went to Wellington to get his visa added to his passport after receiving his UK Work Permit.
Raye Mauger, wife of Ivan, quickly cancelled his planned flight. And once he has the full clearance he will be re-booked on the first available flight so he can take his place in the Mildenhall side.
But until this is sorted the Fen Tigers needed to act quickly to cover for his absence, as there would be no facility to cover for him other than using a Conference League rider.
Team boss Laurence Rogers looked at all the options available to bring in another rider and knew that whoever he introduced would be a short-term move. But remembering a phone call he had a few months before contacted Reading Promoter Mark Legg about one of his unused assets who Rogers knew wanted to get back into British Speedway and the upside of it all is that not only have Mildenhall plugged their temporary gap but have also added a rider to their asset base.
Making a return to British Speedway is former Reading, Carmarthen and Sheffield rider Shane Colvin, who is a former Fen Tiger as well. Rogers knows the rider well and had previous dealings with him when assisting Carmarthen, “ I knew that Shane was hoping to get back into British Speedway and also had heard the whisper that Reading would release him on a free transfer if this happened. “
“I have kept in touch with him over the past few years and now the chance has come to bring him in I had no hesitation in offering him the chance as I know he can do a good job for us. He knows that it is only short term but it puts him in the shop window so it’s up to him to show what he can do.”
“We must thank Mark Legg and Malcolm Holloway, who are both old and good friends of mine for their help and assistance with this and from the club’s point of view we have added another asset to our rider base.”
“Shane knows the Mildenhall track from his time there and will put that to good use I am sure. He will be along distance traveller though as he is based in France nowadays and has a successful business running there but will be taking time off from that to get himself re-established in British Speedway.”
“It is too short a notice for him to get over in time for the challenge at Peterborough on Thursday so with their permission I will book in a guest but Shane will be arriving in time to ride at the team practice on Saturday before making his debut the following day in the Premier trophy match against Rye House.”
Fucks sake.
