So, after victory in the desolate place they call Armadump, can the heathen Tigers complete a league double over their regal rivals from the heathen capital, or will the Monarchs return the compliment and defeat the Tigers in their Ashfield base? The odds have to be heavily in favour of a Tigers win, but in this weird, occasionally wonderful, but more often infuriating sport, who knows?

Unless they're going to be using motorised canoes i can see me spending another Sunday afternoon watching football on the telly as the now usual Saturday afternoon monsoon grips the West of Scotland . Winter speedway anyone

Well, it looks like mega-points from reserves have dried up and young Tully finding the going mudch tougher in the main body of the team again.

No stopping the mighty Tigers now . 5 points against our nearest and dearest have set us up nicely for an end of season challenge . Now all you have to do is fit all your fixtures in, avoid a home defeat at the hands of the Weirdity & Co and you're laughing, well, until King's Lynn or Isle of Wight spank you out of sight in the play-offs.

Top 4 is probably a bit beyond us , but let us savour a 5 point return against the Monarchs . That is the high point of the season - no matter how bad they are . And 30 points for the Messiah was very enjoyable .

Well, it looks like mega-points from reserves have dried up and young Tully finding the going mudch tougher in the main body of the team again. This proves how daft the rules are at times. In his first season in the PL and is thrust in to the top five after so few matches when he should be learning his trade at reserve. Enjoyable day out with friends from both sides of the divide ;D No surprise in the result or the amount of the victory. Kaj was good and Matthew and Derek did quite well. Heat one was worth the admission money alone just to hear the silence as we got a 5-1. Waheyyyyyyyyyyyyy

I don't necessarily disagree with you - Tully has been a victim of a sport beholden to the tyranny of averages. However, I think where our views would diverge, is that I don't believe a rider of the experience of Wethers should be allowed to have a couple of months at reserve. So, by all means "ring fence" youngsters like Tully (although the same would have to apply to Woffinden at Rye House) at reserve, but don't allow experienced riders such as Wethers to have an easy couple of months down at reserve just because their confidence needs a lift.

In ther unlikely event that anyone's interested here are my thoughts on the match:
The Edinburgh Team - Let me say straight away that Kai Laukkanen was a lot more impressive at Ashfield. True he didn't beat Parker or Watson but he was very much more on the pace and looked quicker. He just couldn't match the Glasgow big two out of the starts which is a pity because it would have been interesting to see how he would have fared against them if he had.
Only Matthew Wethers and Derek Sneddon gave him any support so it was effectively a three man effort. Matthew was again impressive and had little trouble passing the Glasgow lesser lights and Derek gave his all as usual. Certainly it was unfortunate not to hit the 1-8 in heat 11 but full credit to Leverington to spot what was going on and take advantage. Derek made the pass of the match when he hunted down and smoothly glided past David McAllan in heat 8. He also figured in the heat 1 maximum with Matthew which saw an eerie silence descend over Ashfield.
Andrew Tully just couldn't get out of the gate and gave himself too much of a handicap with his slow starts but the effort was there and on another day he would have done much better. Kalle Katajisto unfortunately just hasn't a clue how to make starts and we are left frustrated wondering how good he can be if he ever does make a gate. On the basis of his efforts while at the back the answer is 'bloody good'! James Cockle produced his usual Glasgow performance - a heat 2 win and nothing else although he did seem to have machine problems.
The Glasgow Team - Shane Parker would have seen off a lot better than anything we could produce. Only Kai Laukkanen could match him for speed (from the back unfortunately) and it was really an easy day's earnings for him as he rattled up a flawless maximum. Craig Watson still looks like little more than a fast gater to me. He looked distinctly ordinary when Derek and Matthew saw him off round the opening bends of heat 1 but, to be fair, his gating after than was excellent.
Trent Leverington slightly disappointed me - perhaps I expected more from him because I rate him as the most improved rider at Ashfield- but no matter what he does away from home he is a very good third heat leader for Glasgow and always has to be reckoned with. Robert Ksiezak now looks a very aggressive rider - too aggressive at times - and still relies on his fast starts. Unfortunately he made quite a lot of fast starts against us over the weekend. David McAllan looked nothing like as good as he did at Armadale on Friday night.
At reserve Michael Coles and Lee Dicken will rarely have such an easy time of it. There were rich pickings for them against our reserve pairing.
The Ashfield Track - it was surprisingly good although very slick and short of dirt and water making it a bit of a gater's paradise. Passing was at a premium. I have to say though that you couldn't fault Glasgow for having it that way considering the massive amount of rain which had fallen on it on Saturday.
The Entertainment - OK but with such a comparatively small band of visiting supporters there wasn't a great deal of atmosphere. Derek Sneddon did his best to liven things up but as usual he upset a lot of the locals who didn't seem to want to be wound up. Have they no sense of humour? Did they just want a quiet, uneventful afternoon?
My Own Enjoyment - well I had a very good afternoon standing beside my good friend Paulco. He's always interesting to chat to and his views are usually spot on. I also enjoyed meeting a number of my other Glasgow friends - Tommy L who I was pleased to learn is much better than recently after successful physiotherapy, his daughter H-lo1, Big Peachey - he's really a very nice and considerate guy although he might not thank me for saying so - and others. It was also good to chat with Daniele Tessari and his wife before they set off for home today. All the best to both of them.

I enjoyed my afternoon as well mate ;D But dont exaggerate - it wasn't an eerie silence after the first heat Monarchs 5-1 - more like a mild irritation . Normal service was quickly re-established . We're the king of the hill at the moment , so i'm just enjoying it while it lasts . ;D But it's always good to see yourself , Midnight Lady , Dekker and King Jamie at the home of Scottish speedway .

Just wait till the Scottish Cup. I believe The Monarchs' team for that match will be: 1. Chris Holder (G) 2. Derek Sneddon 3. Kai Laukkanen 4. Matthew Wethers 5. George Stancl 6. Magnus Zetterstrom(G) 7. Daniel Nermark(G) The guests are naturally replacements for our injured and missing riders. We're only using three this year. Glasgow will no doubt be at full strength again with Sunday's line-up. We'll see who's king of the hill after that!
