From the SGB website: :::: BIRMINGHAM title-winners Tom Bacon and Danyon Hume will be back to defend the National League crown in 2017.
The duo played significant roles in the Brummies' third tier success this year and have both agreed a return to Perry Barr for next season.
Manager Graham Drury said: “Both Tom and Danyon were very popular with the supporters last season and we simply had to get them back on board.
“They were really impressive to say it was only their second season in the sport and I'm sure they'll continue to grow with us in 2017.
“Tom will start the season at No.1 - but I'm sure both Danyon and Jack Parkinson-Blackburn will be desperate to snatch that race jacket off him as soon as they can.
“That's three of last year's title winning side back and we should be able to announce a couple more riders later in the week.”

From the SGB website: ::: BIRMINGHAM have signed teenager Layne Cupitt as part of their side to defend the National League title next year.
Cupitt had spells with King’s Lynn, Cradley and the Isle of Wight in 2016 and impressed in late-season visits to Perry Barr.
Brummies boss Graham Drury said: “I rate this lad very highly and I think he's going to prove to be a very good signing, especially on that bargain of an average.
“He's got a very tidy style on a speedway bike, he's a very technical rider and I think he's one of the three-point picks that stood out on paper.
“When he scored nine points in the British Under-19 Final at Perry Barr this year, he was a rider who caught my eye in that prestigious meeting and that performance typified his capabilities.”Attachments:

DARRYL Ritchings has become the fourth 2016 National League title winner to rejoin Birmingham for next season.
The Wiltshire racer returns on a 7.04 starting average and team boss Graham Drury is predicting a big year for Ritchings.
Drury said: “I fully expect Darryl to be pushing really close for our No.1 race jacket alongside our other three heat-leaders next season and I think that could be an interesting battle in itself.
“He was disappointed with his form in the second part of the season, but that just tells you what he expects of himself at this level. For me, he was a consistent, solid performer who contributed some vital points for the team and rarely scored below his average.
“I think Darryl will come back refreshed from the winter break and we look forward to having him as part of another exciting looking team.”Attachments:

From the SGB website: :::::: BIRMINGHAM have secured the services of Chris Hay for the 2017 National League season.
The 28-year-old joins Tom Bacon, Danyon Hume, Darryl Ritchings, Jack Parkinson-Blackburn and Layne Cuppit as the sixth signing for the Brummies.
The former motocross rider made a number of appearances for both Stoke and Buxton in the second half of the 2016 campaign and is looking forward to his full first season in the sport.
Said Hay: “I was delighted to get the phone call from Birmingham and this is a really big thing for me.
“I eased myself into the sport last year but moving to such a big club like Birmingham will hopefully help me progress to the level I want to be at.
“I used to do motocross but then I went to one of the Wayne Carter Training Schools last winter and I really enjoyed having a go on a speedway bike.
“I picked it up pretty quickly and I raced in a few of the amateur meetings at Scunthorpe.
“Riding in the Midland Development and Northern Junior Leagues was all good experience and I was glad to get some National League meetings in in the end too.
“Although I’m a late starter to speedway, I still want to have some success in the sport and I think Birmingham is the perfect kind of place for me to show what I can do.
“It may take me a couple of weeks, but I’ll be keeping my eyes and my ears open at all times learning as much as I can from some good riders and some experienced management and hopefully it won’t be long before I start doing a decent job for the team.”
Brummies team manager Graham Drury said: “I know the signing of Chris is one people probably won’t have seen coming, but I have been encouraged by his approach to his racing behind the scenes.
“He goes about his preparations the right way and he’s keen to become a solid points scorer.
“It’s not going to happen overnight for the lad but with a bit of encouragement and confidence behind him, he could well prove to be a good signing.
“I saw him on a couple of occasions for Stoke towards the back end of last year and he beat some riders who’ve been in the game a lot longer than he has.
“Chris is the oldest signing I’ve made at this level but I feel he can be a good addition to the side both on and off the track.”

Frm the SGB web site: ::::: BIRMINGHAM have completed their line-up for 2017 with the signing of talented teen Kean Dicken.
The 15-year-old has shown plenty of encouraging signs on the British youth scene and has now been given the opportunity to step up to the National League with the reigning Champions.
Dicken is the son of former Hull and Glasgow racer Lee, who also rode for Buxton in the third tier last year, and joins the Surestop Brummies as a 3.00 reserve.
Birmingham team manager Graham Drury says he is delighted to have Dicken on board and feels his side for the forthcoming season is more than capable of challenging for honours once again.
Said Drury: “I had so many riders get in touch with me regarding our final position in the team and after thinking long and hard about it, I was more than willing to give Kean his first proper shot at competitive racing.
“I had riders of all ages asking if they could ride for Birmingham this year but I wanted to give a youngster a chance because I believe that’s what the National League is about.
“You only have to look at our teams from the past two seasons and look at how a large percentage of those riders have progressed in such a short space of time.
“I wanted to add another young, British name to that list who have benefitted from starting their careers with Birmingham and I think Kean could fit that bill perfectly.
“I’ve heard so many good things about Kean both on and off the track and I think he’ll love being a part of this Birmingham team.
“He’s got some great equipment, he’s got great pedigree and he’s got the right people around him which is a huge bonus for the lad.
“His whole family dedicate their time doing everything they can to make sure he gets to the top as quickly as he can and if he shows me the dedication and commitment to get there, as I feel he will, then I will help guide and assist him every step of the way.
“I think he’s going to prove to be a real hit with our supporters and while it may take him a few meetings to settle in, I have high hopes for Kean, I really do.
“I’m absolutely over the moon with the side we’ve assembled once again and I can’t wait to get the lads together as a group for the first time!”
Meanwhile, Dicken himself is relishing the chance to line-up for the back-to-back National League Champions.
“I’d already heard from a few clubs about signing for them, but when Birmingham got in touch, there was only one place I wanted to be,” said Dicken.
“I’ve heard so many good things about the club and it’s somewhere where I feel I’m going to learn a lot and hopefully progress like some of the other riders have.
“I’m good mates with Jack Parkinson-Blackburn and everyone knows what he did in his first season with them.
“I’m just so excited for what’s going to be my first real big year and I can’t wait to get stuck in and score some points for the team.”
Dicken joins Tom Bacon, Danyon Hume, Darryl Ritchings, Jack Parkinson-Blackburn, Chris Hay and Layne Cupitt in the Birmingham line-up.Attachments:

It's an interesting new season ahead for Birmingham - now under the promotion of their former rider David Mason - the rider who was the subject of many terrace jibes in 2017. How hypocritical can speedway fans be - they now appear to admire him! Here's the latest update from the Brummie camp: www.birminghambrummies.co

Now despite the rebukes when he signed as a Birmingham rider a couple of years ago, David Mason has now in a proctorial role steered the club into the Championship.
