ROCKETS V PANTHERS, POSTPONED Saturday June 20, 2015
A heavy and persistent downpour has led to the postponement of tonight’s scheduled Premier League match between the “Restart” Rockets and Peterborough a little over two hours ahead of the scheduled start time.
After earlier light drizzle, the heavens truly opened at around 4.20 and quickly flooded the circuit. With no sign of abatement, the meeting was called off at around 4.45.
A new date for the fixture will be announced in due course.

GREENWOOD TO LEAVE PANTHERS
TUESDAY JUNE 23, 2015
PETERBOROUGH rider Ollie Greenwood will wave farewell following the club’s televised showdown against Glasgow on Wednesday.
Panthers bosses and the popular reserve racer have reached a mutual agreement which will see him released from the team after a difficult second spell with the club, and they plan to unveil a new rider later this week.
Promoter Ged Rathbone said: “Ollie has done his utmost to try to turn his performances around, but it just hasn’t happened and he does not want to be in a position where we could cost the team results.
“We have chosen to make this public knowledge in advance of his last meeting for the club as we know the regard Ollie is held in by our supporters and we want them to be able to give him a good send-off.
“It goes without saying that we thank Ollie for his efforts and we also hope a move to pastures new will help him to kick-start his season.”

PANTHERS SIGN KONOPKA
THURSDAY JUNE 25, 2015
PETERBOROUGH promoter Ged Rathbone is backing Polish ace Rafal Konopka to entertain the East of England Showground fans.
The 22 year-old Polish ace has been drafted in at reserve by the Panthers and is scheduled to make his debut when they entertain Plymouth on Sunday (June 28) providing the move receives official British Speedway Promoters' Association (BSPA) clearance.
Konopka has plenty of Premier League experience after spending much of the 2014 campaign and the opening half of the current season racing for Redcar.
Rathbone has seen him in action in the North-East on a regular basis and believes he is capable of boosting Panthers' bid for title glory.
Rathbone said: "I've seen plenty of him riding for Redcar and what you get from Rafal is entertainment and effort in every race.
"He is dedicated to his speedway and does everything he can to be successful in the sport. He is very excited by this opportunity and we will work hard with him to ensure he has the right machinery and set-up.
"Some people may question the move and see it as a gamble, but I feel he has the talent to do a job for us.
"Sometimes riders can do a bit too much and cost themselves points. That has definitely been the case with him at Redcar.
"We just need to calm him down and make sure he rides consistently to score us a few points."

BSPA Vice Chairman Rob Godfrey hopes the revamped Premier League Fours Spectacular Weekend can become a flagship event on the British speedway calendar.
The reformed competition will feature 72 heats spread across Saturday, July 23 and Sunday, July 24 involving all 13 Premier League clubs at the East of England Showground.
With an odd number of clubs, the difficult decision has been taken to seed host club Peterborough directly to the final this year, although the plan from next year onwards is to award the defending Champions that place.
Ticket prices have been set at £20 per day individually or £30 for a two-day pass, with under 12s free and kids over 12 £7.50 per day or £10 for both days.
Camping, which can be booked via Peterborough Speedway for the Friday, Saturday and Sunday, will cost £10 per night although hook-ups for a motorhome or caravan will cost extra.
A bumper Saturday night of entertainment will also cost £5, but Godfrey hopes their competitive pricing structure will see the event become a huge part of the speedway season.
“We’ve put together a pricing structure which we believe provides great value, and although we are relying on lots of people coming we certainly hope they will turn out in numbers,” Godfrey said.
“We’ve tried to price it in a way to encourage people to come for the weekend so they’ll get better value for money, and Peterborough will be releasing a press release with more details on how to sort out camping.
“We know it’s a gamble, but we very much believe it’s worth it because it’s an attractive event and we are going to put 100% into it.
“We are expecting every single Premier League promoter to have an input, and I know the Peterborough promotion are certainly getting behind it fully and coming up with new ideas.
“The East of England Showground have been very helpful with us, it’s probably the only venue in the country where we could do this sort of thing and we are delighted to have their support.
“Collectively I believe we can make this an absolutely brilliant event in the first year, and following on from that we can improve on any mistakes we make to ensure it gets bigger and better as the years go on.
“It’s a starting point for us. It includes every single team, it’s unique to British speedway at this time and we certainly feel it has the potential to be a fantastic event.”

PETERBOROUGH have been forced to call off their mouth-watering Easter Monday derby clash against Ipswich due to major repair work at the East of England Showground.
The League Cup match has been postponed on health and safety grounds as a six-figure project to correct a number of electrical faults at the Alwalton venue will not be completed in time to allow it to go ahead.
Promoter Ged Rathbone said: “It goes without saying it is a huge blow to see our first meeting of the season postponed.
“We can only apologise for the inconvenience it causes for supporters of both clubs.
“But there is no one more disappointed than myself as we face the prospect of losing one of our most money-spinning days of the season.”Attachments:

From the SGB website: :::: A LOOK back on Saturday's action from Rye House, Berwick and Workington with post-match comments from the clubs where available.
PETERBOROUGH produced a blistering finish to launch their Premier League campaign with a bang on Saturday night.
The Panthers slammed in three 5-1s in the final four races to swoop for a fine 48-42 win at Rye House in a terrific clash.
Nikolaj Busk Jakobsen (pictured) made a stunning return to his former club by leading home fellow double-figures stars Emil Grondal in heat 12 and captain Ulrich Ostergaard in heat 15 for two of the full houses.
Jakobsen scored 13 points for the visitors, backed up by Grondal on 12+2 and Osteragaard on 12+1, with Edward Kennett scoring 12 for the home side.
Panthers caretaker boss Dale Allitt said: “It was exactly the start to the league season we wanted. We showed we have a lot of fighters in the team to keep ourselves in a position from which we could win the meeting.
“Nikolaj had a great return to his former track while Emil and Ulrich were also superb. To have three riders in double-figures on the road is no mean feat.”
Rye House manager Peter Schroeck said: “This proves to you just how strong this league is, and you can’t take it for granted. We had a couple of little hiccoughs today, and we couldn’t really prepare the track the way we wanted it because of the weather - but that’s not an excuse because we came up against a very strong team.
“We just have to pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and get on with it. In all sports, you have your ups and downs, and it’s a long season. Today we had a bit of a reality check, but we will build ourselves back up again. It’s as simple as that.”
In the League Cup, Edinburgh gained revenge for a recent home defeat against Berwick by winning 48-42 at Shielfield Park.
The Monarchs’ top four dominated the meeting, taking 12 race wins, with Ryan Fisher leading the way with a paid maximum.
Berwick had hoped to salvage an unlikely draw with two late 5-1s, but those hopes were ended in Heat 15 when Fisher got the better of Theo Pijper (12+2) with Sam Masters third.
Edinburgh boss Alex Harkess said: “That was a lot better, it will make one or two people take notice of us. Our top four were excellent and that gives the less experienced riders a chance to settle in.”
Bandits manager Scott Courtney said: “The weather really ruined our show tonight and it meant that gating was all-important, and Edinburgh were giving us a lesson in gating.
“But they also had guys who when out in front were virtually untouchable, so they worked hard for their win, as indeed we did when we won up there a week ago.”
Meanwhile Workington maintained their unbeaten start to their League Cup campaign with a 50-42 home victory over Newcastle, which crucially prevented the Diamonds from picking up a match point.
Kenneth Hansen and Claus Vissing both scored 12 for the Comets, with guest Richie Worrall top-scoring on 14+1 for the visitors.
Comets boss Tony Jackson said: “It was a superb team effort from all seven of the lads, and just what we asked for before the meeting. We made a dream start by taking maximum points from the opening two heats and basically held that advantage throughout.
“Going into the final race we knew that a shared heat would be enough to stop the Diamonds picking up a match point; and although the hitherto unbeaten Claus got squeezed out by the Worrall twins, Kenneth made a dream start to lead all the way and secure the 3-3 that we needed.”

PETERBOROUGH captain Ulrich Ostergaard has vowed to put his Newcastle nightmare behind him.
The Panthers star endured one of the most frustrating meetings of his long career in a 59-34 defeat at the hands of the Diamonds last Sunday – with a host of factors conspiring to leave him scoring just 2+1.
Ostergaard said: “It was a horrible night and one I just want to forget about. I crashed, I touched the tapes and then when I was having a good ride and on course to win heat nine, the top bolt, which holds the engine and frame together, broke on the final lap.
“Newcastle is always a tough place to go and we had very little experience of that track in our side.
“But the defeat was still really disappointing and we need to put it right by beating them at the Showground (on Friday). We've got five meetings left to seal our place in the play-offs and four of them are at home.”Attachments:

From the SPEEDWAY GB website:: ::::::::: BJERRE BACK IN BIG PANTHERS REBUILD
SATURDAY AUGUST 27, 2016
TOP Danish star Kenneth Bjerre is on his way back to Peterborough as part of the club’s sensational rebuild.
Bjerre has agreed a late-season deal to join the Panthers’ mission to reach the Premier League play-offs and challenge for title glory.
He is a already a fine Peterborough servant after spending seven seasons with the club during their Elite League days . . . and now he is back along with another familiar face from the top-flight era.
Club chiefs have handed Richard Hall a return 10 years after he helped Peterborough capture the Elite League title in unforgettable fashion in 2006.
Sunject to BSPA approval both riders will make their debuts next Sunday (September 4) when Panthers take on Rye House and Workington in a crucial double-header at the East of England Showground.
It brings the total of new signings in the last 24 hours to four as promoter Ged Rathbone plots a challenge for honours with the club fighting to remain in the top-six of the standings.
Bjerre and Hall follow Anders Thomsen and Danny Halsey into the radically revamped Peterborough team. Those two men will make their first appearances against Redcar on Bank Holiday Monday (7pm).
Rathbone said: “I’ve said it in print, I’ve said it on air and I told all the fans present at the Showground last night . . . I want a team capable of winning trophies.
“I will never settle for mediocrity and I will certainly not allow our season to drift away in the way that has been looking likely.
“We could have sat back and hoped for the best with the team that we had been tracking, or we could have just made one or two changes to try to improve things.
“But we’ve gone all out and put together a one-to-seven which I feel can rival any in the Premier League.
“To be able to bring Kenneth in is a massive coup. Along with the capture of Craig Cook back in May, I think it is safe to say we have now made the two biggest signings of the season at this level.
“And I can’t speak highly enough of Kenneth’s attitude when he contacted him. He never managed to win a trophy with the club when riding here in the Elite League era, and he is determined to help us do that this year.
“Richard does of course know what it is like to sample glory in Peterborough colours and it is great to be able to give him the chance to do it again 10 years on.
“He is on an absolute steal of an average and I’m confident that being back at the Showground will allow him to start progressing in the sport again.
“Not many teams at this level could bring in a former World Championship leader and Elite League title-winner at the same time.
“Hopefully our fans will appreciate the hard work that has gone into rebuilding the team after also announcing the signings of Anders and Danny yesterday.
“The challenge now is to all move forward together – supporters, management, riders and staff – to do everything we can to make 2016 a success.”
Nikolaj Busk Jakobsen and Ashley Morris are the latest two men to make way after the exits of Tom Perry and Emil Grondal were confirmed last night.
Busk Jakobsen and Morris are scheduled to make farewell appearances when Peterborough entertain Redcar at the East of England Showground on Bank Holiday Monday (7pm).
Rathbone added: “As I said last night, it is never easy to have to let any riders go. But we’re in a position where we need to act to give ourselves the best opportunity of challenging for silverware.
“Ashley has exceeded our expectations since he came into the team in early July after Simon Lambert suffered injuries which have ended his season.
“He can count himself very unfortunate to be released, but we had to crunch the numbers and he accepts that.
“In fact he is very grateful for the opportunity we have given him at Premier League level and he is a rider who will be very much in our thoughts when we put our team together for 2017.
“It hasn’t worked out for Nikolaj as we hoped when signing him. We felt this would be a season in which he would kick on after making his British debut in 2015, but he hasn’t scored the points we wanted and needed from him.”Attachments:

From the SGB website::: :::::: PETERBOROUGH have announced they will race home meeting almost exclusively on Sundays during the 2017 season.
Panthers promoter Ged Rathbone has revealed the popular 5pm slot will be used whenever possible.
Rathbone said: “We'll be racing on Sundays as often as we possibly can.
“Crowd figures during the past couple of seasons tell us that is the popular slot with supporters - and I also feel we attract more away fans on Sundays than when racing in the evening.
“The traditional Friday-night slot just doesn't seem to have worked for us.”

From the SGB website: :::::::::::: PETERBOROUGH chief Ged Rathbone has revealed the club's team building is going perfectly to plan.
The Panthers are yet to confirm any signings for 2017 but Rathbone says that is expected later this month – with an improvement in their home form being a priority.
He said: “I'm not in a position to give too much away at the moment, but I've seen plenty of speculation on the internet and it is safe to say there may well be one or two surprises.
“We are working on a team capable of winning regularly at the East of England Showground while entertaining our fans, but we also still need to pick up points on the road.
“There are two fewer places in the play-offs next year so consistency is going to be key as I expect the racing to be closer than ever.”
