Hi speedyguy, I think people now tend to use Facebook and other forms of social media, rather than forums.
The BSF is much bigger, but even that has much less traffic than it used to.
The Weird World did have a brief renaissance at the end of last year when the BSF closed at the height of Ward/he-who-cannot-be-namedgate, but then everyone disappeared again the moment that the BSF was up-and-running again, despite my attempts to hook them with various threads.
I agree, it used to be a great place where serious speedway issues could be discussed. By everything has its time.

I am optimistic that this forum can be revived on a more sensible basis then the BSF - with speedway matters dealt with in a positive way and minus the bickering that bedevils the other forum.

I have had an idea that might restimulate interest in this forum. All it needs is for the forum owner/moderator to email all members of the fact and invite them to participate in what is now happening on here and to join in debating topics. It also looks to me as though some of the boards need updating? That wll be time consuming but in the end may well be worth the effort. Do any other forum members have any comments on how this forum can be brought back in a positive way?

What's on there makes a lot of the stuff on various forums look rather amateurish - and I also see some wll knwn names of long-vanished forum posters actively involved with them.

Several forums featuring speedway have shown a reduction is message flow. The forums however have shown a drop in both visitors and message traffic. And a key reason for this that has emerged from some of them is the increase in popularity for the Facebook sections that deal with speedway. Personally, I have little time for “the other stuff’ that gets on Facebook - and have no time for such nonsense. But after continuing temptation from several speedway friends - yes I do have them! - who have joined Facebook just for its speedway coverage, I have also registered. I was impressed with what I found there. And I also saw many familiar names among its users of people who were once active on the forums but ‘vanished’ a long time ago. There is no doubt that the speedway interest on Facebook is growing. Replies are often made with a few minutes, and added excellent feature is the ability to upload a photo quickly and easily with a few seconds. I remain very much, however, a lover of forums and moderate three (very small membership) Proboards forums, and often visit the sites of many speedway clubs. So far as the Proboards sites are concerned, they register daily visitors and message Posts on a daily basis. Again it is evident that they have all seen a dramatic reduction in visitors, message flow and the use of photo attachments. On several of these forums, the blame has been placed on the increasing interest in speedway by Facebook (and from what one of my sons tells me also on Twitter). We must not be complacent in face of the challenge that is developing from Facebook and similar internet media outlets. What is needed are strong ideas to stimulate new interest in forums to ensure they are not stifled by the internet media.

That's a heartening response TWK - who is an old friend from elsewhere in the Forumworld. While I don't entirely agree with an anti-facebook stance - it's superb for placing photos - I do feel that forums like WWoS do have a positive place and offer far more opportunities in regard to lengthy and informative debate. After some years in the doldrums, the WWoS has been given a facelift and, it is hoped, an easier-to-get-around format. Additionally, the emphasis will be on speedway - any signs of "trollism" that seems a feature on another forum will be dealt with firmly. This forum is for its members to enjoy debate - not to belittle and, as has happened elsewhere, even threats of a kind made to one member.

Timeline can be 'a pain in the rss' but if you join specific groups. ensure that items you do not want to receive are switched off, you can have a most interesting time there. Did you know there is also a Facebook site for this group?

I like your comment in regard to the BSF but from what I can see, as it has been for quite a few years now, it's very much 'business as usual" on there!
