For many years now teams have chopped and changed riders year on year to conform to new points rulings or because they think they can get an advantage over others.
Perhaps the time has come to allow riders to remain with their club for more than one season to increase rider loyalty from fans. Would it help build and maintain crowd levels? It's three years since I last went to KL and the team now bears no resemblance to then so I have no loyalty to any of the new riders, therefore that would not tempt me back. Would I have kept going if the same riders had stayed in the team? Maybe.
Should teams be given an extra point or two if they retain the bulk of the previous years team? Should they be given extra points for using their own assets?

Star Lady, I think there should be a point limit of heat leaders only, and this would encourage clubs to keep the same second strings and reserves, who traditionally were the riders who stayed at a club for a long time.

I think that clubs should be able to retain a team from the previous season irrespective of the points limit. If a team have to make a change through retirement or a rider wants to move, the team should be allowed to replace him with another rider up to his average (assuming the team total is over the limit, and if not, they should be allowed to sign someone to take them up to the limit.)

[quote author=starlady board=sgd thread=4886 post=94288 time=1322307240 I have always been an advocate of that. The point of an.. erm.. points limit is to redistribute riders to prevent teams becoming too strong, but more importantly allow weaker teams to strengthen up. It would also hardly be fair to allow one team to build up to one points limit and another team a lower one year after year. I do agree the current system has become too punitive and detrimental to team loyalties, but I think it could be modified to allow a certain degree of consistency from year-to-year, but only allow teams to naturally improve to a certain point.

Each year under the equalisation procedure teams are set to start level. But the system never works ad within a few meetings the folly of the equalisation scheme is soon shown for the ridiculous venture that it is when put in practice.
