The Lakeside Hammers are delighted to announce that Australian International Davey Watt will be joining the Essex based Club in 2012 from the 2011 Elite League champions, the Poole Pirates. Watt has been a regular guest for the Hammers over the last few years and will fill a heat leader role for his new Club. The Hammers Co Promoter, Jon Cook, commented on this new signing stating: "Davey’s signature is a great start to our team plans and I know he is a very popular rider with our fans and a great character to have in the team. Davey’s a great signing for us and the fact we were his preferred choice once his place at Poole was in question is very gratifying". The Hammers Team Manager, Neil Vatcher, says "I can't wait to work with Davey and having met up with him a few times over the last few weeks I know he is very much looking forward to becoming a Hammer" Speaking from Australia Davey Watt said on his signing for the Hammers: “I’m pleased to be joining the Hammers. I like the track, the fans always seem to get behind the team and I am really impressed with what Stuart (Douglas) and Jon (Cook) have achieved. I hope that I can help them to achieve their ultimate goal of winning the Elite League title.” www.speedway365.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=3434:hammers-sign-watt&catid=297:lakeside-hammers&Itemid=462

Absolutely delighted. Davey rides our track extremely well, he always gives 100% and he's a nice guy too. What's not to like? Welcome to the Hammers Davey

Excellent and looking forward to it already.
Dave definite, Rico, Kim and the Mearcat almost certain I should think with Ljung out definitely.....
Do we think Dave is a like for like replacement for Adam then?
If so, do we have another season of Kauko the inconsistent ahead of us?

I would be very surprised if Adam is not back in 2012.

I'll reserve judgement on the Davey Watt signing. He's not young and probably won't get any better and he never seems quite so motivated when he's not riding for Poole.
However, if he is the experienced rider amongst a team of young up and comers he could fit the bill well. Hopefully we'll sign a real number one to take the pressure away !!

A real number 1 would be nice but that will almost certainly put Rob into the main body of the team (which I don't think Jon would do).
If Tonye is correct then at least the team is likely to be built very much around strength in depth.

Pip Strength in depth doesn't inspire me though.....that normally means riders who have been about for a few years and won't improve very much. I still maintain that the best way forward is to take a few chances and bring in some young, and improving riders. Rob Mear and Kim Nilsson should be retained from last year, but the rest of the team needs rebuilding, and a breath of fresh air !!
