Berwick have announced plans to become the first Premier League club to install the Tracksafe Polyfoam Barrier System at their circuit.
The safety feature is already present at Elite League King’s Lynn’s Norfolk Arena, and the Bandits confirmed the news during their 40-34 home win over Workington on Saturday.
Team boss Ian Rae said: “When King’s Lynn installed their polyfoam barrier this season – after having it fully-tested at MIRA (the Motor Industry Research Association) and fully-approved for all FIM speedway meetings – we felt this might be the way forward.
“It is a big move, a huge investment, by the A & J Scott Bandits – but as in all walks of life, health and safety is a natural requirement, and we want this speedway to be the safest, as well as the fastest, in the land!”
I've no idea how much this will cost Berwick Speedway, but I imagine it will be a tidy sum. Is it time to make it mandaritory for Premier League tracks to have an air fence or TPBS installed.
Personally, I think it is !!!

Way past time that PL Clubs should put safety first IMHO I agree......many of them say they can't afford it, but if NL Stoke can afford one, I'm sure the PL clubs could too ! When air fences were introduced to the EL, each club held a meeting from which the riders' payments went towards the cost and the promoters made up the difference. I'm sure a similar scheme could be adopted for the PL !!!

With 2 PL riders breaking limbs over the weekends racing - ie. Jason Lyons (femur) and Christian Heffenbrock (tibia/fibula) just wondering if there is anyone on this forum who attended those meetings, and is able to give us their opinion as to whether injuries could have been avoided or lessened with the addition of Air Fences at those tracks.

That's a very good point. Let's hope we get a reply....the updates site doesn't really give any clues.
