Poole Speedway owner Matt Ford has announced the addition of Gordon Pairman to the Pirates' promotional team, with immediate effect. Pairman joins the Dorset club having had involvement in the past with both Glasgow and Belle Vue speedway clubs. In making the appointment Ford said "One or two things are happening outside of speedway at the moment which is taking up some of my focus and I am concerned that I may not have been able to afford Poole Speedway the total time available to do everything that is needed and so decided to increase the management team here. Gordon will not have a financial stake in the company but his experience will, I believe, be invaluable to the Poole club as we continue to strive forward. " "Gordon is a genuine, down-to-earth true gentleman and I am being absolutely honest when I say that I head-hunted him. I didn't just want anyone, in fact I didn't want anyone else other than Gordon as I am firmly of the opinion that Gordon fulfills all the qualities that I was looking for. I am sure the Poole fans will soon see what a wonderful guy we have brought to the club, but I will warn them now, Gordon can talk the hind heels of a donkey as he is so passionate about the sport" Pairman,a Chartered Accountant, was born in Scotland but lives on the Isle of Man and is married with two daughters He broke into speedway promotion in 2004 alongside Alan Dick, a previous associate at Motherwell Football club, and Stewart Dickson at Glasgow. Pairman then transferred to Belle Vue in 2007 as senior promoter alongside David Gordon and Chris Morton O.B.E., before transferring back to the Tigers in 2009. He joins Ford and Giles Hartwell as a Poole promoter, admitting "In my view Poole stands head and shoulders above any other team by whatever yardstick you wish to use and that is largely down to the hard work and dedication of Matt Ford. The timing of my appointment is perhaps unfortunate as some might think that it is in some way connected to this winter's dispute, but nothing could be further from the truth. I have been aware that Matt's other business interest have required more of his time and so I am pleased to be able to take some of the weight off his shoulders." "Indeed Matt and I have spoken about this happening for some time now - certainly well over a year - so when he 'phoned me last Sunday it was simply the next step of our discussions. I first went to Poole in the 1980's and was instantly impressed with the set-up. In recent years we would have family holidays at Center Parcs, Longleat and each time we were there I would sneak off on the Wednesday night to visit Poole speedway!" Pairman, who reflects that the biggest home win he has witnessed was Glasgow's 60-17 trouncing of Poole in June 1966 will see his first meeting as Poole co-promoter on Wednesday night when, ironically, it wil be against his former club Belle Vue, as the Pirates hold their first home league match of the season presently unbeaten from their first two league fixtures.
