Hi Munners, was Swidders there yesterday or is he tied up in the boycott somehow? Slightly annoyed that we'll only be facing a Swindon 'representative' side tomorrow night but will be going anyway ;D Pip

Well, having heard the new silencers in action yesterday, I have to say that they sounded much more like the old silencers than the ones that were in use at the Ben Fund meeting in 2010. At Rye House in 2010, they definitely sounded muffled - at the Arena yesterday, they sounded less 'noisy' but not muffled if that makes any sense. I reckon the extra year for development must have really helped in that regard. All the riders I spoke to were still complaining about how hot they get though, and there are concerns over potential long term damage to the engines too. Has anyone else heard them yet and have any comments on how they sound? ? I'm sure I read somewhere yesterday that they were used in last years SWC?? Maybe on the BSPA article...?

Polish Riders To Be Withdrawn? THURSDAY, 24 MARCH 2011 10:20 World Champion Tomasz Gollob is set to miss the chance of defending his championship this season after the PZM stand by their decision to ban new silencers. The PZM (Polish Motor Union) are at a stand off with the FIM with neither side willing to back down of the latest saga to hit World Speedway, if it continues on the route its going it looks increasingly likely that Polish riders may not be riding in the Grand Prix series or the World Cup in 2011. The news was confirmed by Piotr Szymanski who is president of the GKSZ (Main Commission for Speedway) which is the sub-body of the PZM and runs the sport in Poland. "The Polish league will be subject to the so called old silencers, or those that were approved up to 31st December 2009," Szymanski confirmed to SportoweFakty. "According to the rules we have the right to refuse consent to compete in the foreign leagues, but I don't think such a problem exists. "If the riders say the silencers are dangerous to their health, they will not even ask for permission to ride in the league which are applying the new silencers. "The GKSZ has now requested that this matter be approved by the PZM and if on Friday this is agreed, they will send a letter to the FIM with the information about the withdrawal of our teams." Three Polish riders will withdraw from the World Series, World Champion Tomasz Gollob, World Number Two Jaroslaw Hampel and GP wild card Rookie Janusz Kołodziej have led the protest against the new type of silencer and look to have decided their own fate. If the threat to pull out from the three stays in it's position, series reserves Magnus Zetterström,Thomas H. Jonasson, Niels Kristian Iversen could find themselves promoted into the series full time in 2011. www.speedway365.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=2001%3Apolish-riders-to-be-withdrawn&catid=317%3Apolish-news&Itemid=598

It is annoying about Swindon, but this is just the start of it I fear. If all the Poles do have to withdraw from England, then every side with 1 or more Poles in their team will be looking for replacement riders! With a week to go to the start of the season, sadly, I can see more than just this meeting using substitutes!

Hmmm, so it appears that Poland will now ride in SWC but will ban all Polish riders from riding in foreign leagues as well as other FIM events (such as U-21 championships).
Not confirmed as yet, but fairly reliable.

I'm reluctant to Kev, because none of it was official, and, unlike some on another forum, I'm not prone to speculation and wild guesswork! If I do hear anything official though, I'll post it!

I agree with your sentiments Munners.....speculation has led to the demise of the BSF and we don't want that to happen here. Weird should be for facts and discussions, pms are for speculation.

Kev, me old mucker, I think there is room for speculation, as long as it's clear that's what it is. The problem with the BSF is people posting speculation as facts. It's why I don't bother with the Cov/Peterboro threads on the BSF, they're full of shite. Whereas I know once there are facts, someone will post them on here, without all the crap at the same time.

That's a fair comment and I believe Weirdos do actually make it clear when they post speculation......but I really don't think that's the problem with the BSF.....but that's another story.

Poles Opposed To Silencer Ban THURSDAY, 31 MARCH 2011 16:16 Over 30 Polish league racers have opposed to the proposed ban introduction of a new type of silencer introduced to world and Polish speedway this season. The list includes Adrian Miedzinski, Rune Holta, Krzysztof Buczkowski and a host of other riders who apply their trade in the european leagues.
