Which they would have done ..... they were about to, as the statement says, when the BSPA changed their minds at the 11th hour. I'm not reading it that way. The BSPA statement says this: "The BSPA made an offer to both Coventry and Peterborough on 31 January 2011 which would have seen them both resume their membership of the Elite League with immediate effect. The offer would also have permitted both Coventry and Peterborough to continue with their proposed legal action, including claims for compensation if they suffer any losses. That offer was rejected." And Sandhu's statement says this "The reference by the BSPA to an offer on the 31st January conveniently ignores the terms of that offer which were clearly designed to further disadvantage the two clubs both financially and competitively. In fact a further agreement was reached on Thursday 10th February and both clubs were prepared to announce an end to the dispute on their websites on Friday 18th February. In typical fashion the BSPA negotiators prevaricated on the details the following day and the announcement had to be cancelled." And Frost's statement says this... “That is what happened this winter but even so both clubs were willing to accept the change of regulations provided there was a firm guarantee of the independent arbiters (who should have no direct involvement in a club) in cases of dispute as to the interpretation of those rules. “As recently as last Thursday 10th February, our solicitors had an agreement. This was agreed and confirmed by the lawyers acting for the BSPA. “We planned to announce that we were in the Elite League and had actually formulated teams that would represent us in 2011 but the BSPA came back with a counter proposal. “It is clear that in rejecting an independent appeals body and a 12 month rule changing moratorium the BSPA and certain members are only interested in maintaining and furthering their own narrow interests to the exclusion of all else including the desire of the vast majority of the speedway public in having a level playing field for all clubs not just the favoured few."

But nothing he says contradicts the BSPA assertion that an offer was made on 31st January which they didn't accept - or am I missing something?

I have to say that all three press releases are naturally worded to defend/promote the actions of the relevant parties, and the whole truth will probably never be known. It is a pleasure however, to read some reasoned debate between Zonkers and Munners who clearly have different viewpoints, but are able to discuss the subject in a rational and adult like manner. More of the same girls...and why can't all forums be like this ?

In a hurry doing dinner and getting boys to bed right now, so in a hurry, but will look later...

There is absolutely nothing wrong with healthy debate. The world would truly be a boring place if we all felt the same!

And now I'm completely "zonked" out with this subject for one night.....I've lost track of who said what, when and where.....between the various forums my brain is addled .......

I'm sure she doesn't, and I'm sure it wouldn't.......my point is that not all forums attract healthy debate for whatever reason......this one seems to be different and long may that continue !!

I don't think my enthusiasm for speedway has ever been so low, even in early 2008 after the closure of Oxford.

Following on from that interview, Kings Lynn hit back !!! The King’s Lynn Stars have ferociously denied claims made by Coventry co-promoter, Allen Trump, live on BBC radio Warwickshire on Thursday night, that ‘King’s Lynn’s business model is based on taking half of Peterborough’s team and a large... proportion of Peterborough’s supporters’ .
King’s Lynn Stars promoter Keith Chapman said, ‘We have been supporters of both Coventry and Peterborough returning to the Elite League in 2011, we have actually voted in favour of two resolutions’s which is documented and can be called upon in a court of law. We are therefore disgusted by these allegations which are completely fictional and in all honesty totally unprofessional. It seems Mr Trump isn’t happy enough with the situation he has left his own club in and wishes to tarnish the credibility of all other clubs at the same time! We would like to also point out to Mr Trump that King’s Lynn has been one of the most successful clubs in the Premier League in recent years and we are keen to see how he can substantiate his claims as our own business plan clearly shows that with the addition of television rights money and the extra sponsorship we have managed to attract we can sustain the costs of Elite League racing with just our regular fan base. It is also worth mentioning that we only signed two of former Peterborough riders, which is less than half a team, and there was clearly no issue with this as their promotion were fully aware it at the time.’
Despite the dispute with Coventry and Peterborough are the club still happy with their decision to move up into the Elite League? ‘Things had got stale in the Premier League and the club needed to take this opportunity. Of course the dispute has cast a small shadow over what is an exceptionally exciting time for the club but once our fans hear the first roar of the engines that shadow will disappear and we can all start to get excited about watching the likes of Bjerre, Bomber, Holder and Ward on a weekly basis!’ said Keith Chapman.

I'm normally chomping at the bit by now, but at the moment, I feel no enthusiasm whatsoever. This whole business has left a very sour taste in the mouth, and I strongly suspect that many other speedway fans feel exactly the same as we do. I wonder just how many fans are going to turn up for our first home meeting! Can the sport really survive this?
