Swiderski Out, Davidsson In
WEDNESDAY, 30 MARCH 2011 09:08 With little more than 48 hours until the Lakeside Hammers kick off their 2011 Sky Sports Elite League campaign the Club have today confirmed that their Swedish favourite Jonas Davidsson will return to the side in his trusted No.4 position in the line-up for the tough clash with track experts, the Wolverhampton Wolves.
The Wolves are the most successful of all visitors to the Arena-Essex Raceway and present a glamorous opposition led by Swedish veteran, popular visitor Peter Karlsson plus England's great white hope Tai Woffinden not to mention Grand Prix rider Freddie Lindgren.
Davidsson replaces Polish star Piotr Swiderski in the Hammers team after the Club decided that they could wait no longer for a firm decision from the PZM (Polish Federation) on lifting a ban on the rider, and several of his fellow countrymen, from racing abroad amid rumours that a meeting later this week was likely to remove the measure.
The Hammers Co Promoter Jon Cook commented: "It’s great to welcome JD back, albeit on a short term basis, until Piotr is all clear to return. He has sent an engine and other equipment over with Greg Hancock who is racing at Poole tonight (Wednesday) and with the loan of a chassis from Martin Hagon he will be very well prepared for this challenging meeting. Piotr is hoping to be back sooner rather than later but we can’t go past mid week not knowing what our line-up will be on Friday and this represents our strongest line-up possible for a mouth-watering opening fixture".
The Meeting starts at 8pm with the rider parade scheduled for 7.45pm.
The two line-ups are as follows:-
Lakeside Hammers – Lee Richardson (Great Britain), Kauko Nieminen ( Finland), Adam Shields (Australia), Jonas Davidsson ( Sweden), Peter Ljung (Sweden), Robert Mear ( Great Britain) & Kyle Legault (Canada.)
Wolverhampton Wolves – Fredrik Lindgren (Sweden), Ludvig Lindgren (Sweden), Tyron Proctor (Australia), Tai Woffinden (Great Britain), Peter Karlsson (Sweden), Tyson Burmeister (U.S.A.) & Ricky Wells (U.S.A.).

Woohoo to having the lad back ;D He seems to have been my ghost since 2007, when I lived in Reading and then returned to the Hammers just as I returned to the Motherland Pip

The Lakeside Hammers are proud to announce Ruggles & Jeffery Ltd (www.rugglesandjeffery.co.uk) as the Club’s lead Community Programme Partner. Ruggles & Jeffery are a successful Essex based business that specialises in office and commercial fit-outs, refurbishment and small construction projects. The company, which has a history of supporting grass roots and community projects throughout the county, is committed to putting something back into their community and is delighted to be supporting the Hammers ground breaking programme. Ian Jeffery and Brian Ruggles with Hammers skipper Lee Richardson and Co-Promoter Jon Cook Ian Jeffery, managing director of R & J, explaining the company’s involvement said that “we’ve been looking to expand our involvement in community projects and are thrilled to have the opportunity to help the Hammers develop their educational, charity and outreach work. We’re excited to be working in a new arena and by the opportunities that we can help create.” Mark Sexton, Hammers Community Liaison Manager, expanded by saying that thanks to R & J’s substantial financial commitment, the club can meet the programme’s primary goals of helping schools, youth groups, charities and other organisations that support the disadvantaged. Sexton believes that the Ruggles and Jeffery name will soon become synonymous with the Hammers and its Community Programme and added that the club is enormously grateful for the faith that R & J’s company directors have shown in the programme’s aims and objectives. The club’s recently upgraded website provides an insight into the Community Programme (CP) and can be viewed by following the Community tab at www.lakesidehammers.com Hammers co-promoter, Jon Cook, said that “this is another feather in the cap of the club and having met the guys from Ruggles & Jeffery on several occasions, I am sure that they will prove to be ideal community partners. We look forward to working together on this exciting project and bringing our club and our sport to a new audience within the local community, many of whom we otherwise may not get the opportunity to reach.” Ruggles & Jeffery’s involvement in the Lakeside Hammers Community Programme followed discussions that began last December between Sexton and Roger McKerlie of Sport Business Network (www.sportbusinessnetwork.com ), who brokered the deal. SBN is a south-east based company that is enjoying significant growth by leveraging the power that sport has to help its membership network effectively. The deal is the company’s first venture into speedway and McKerlie hopes that the alliance between all the parties involved will provide a blueprint for other community-minded companies. The Hammers will be welcoming Ian, Brian and other company representatives to the Raceway at tonight’s Elite League fixture against the Wolverhampton Wolves. From www.speedwaygb.co

Former Grand Prix star Lee Richardson admits he stretched his knee ligaments at Lakeside last night, but is confident he will be fit for Hammers’ clash with Belle Vue on Friday. The 31-year-old crashed in heat 10 of his side’s 48-45 win over Wolves while attempting to storm around Tai Woffinden and Tyron Proctor on turn three. He received lengthy attention on the track before being taken to hospital by ambulance to be checked over. Having suffered ligament damage in his left knee before, Richardson had plenty of cause for concern. But he says his knee brace saved him from any major damage, which could have ended his season. He said: “I was having a nightmare of a meeting and I ended up crashing as well. I stretched my ligaments but I had it all checked out. I had a scan. “I don’t wear full knee braces, but I do wear a brace because I had an operation on my knee two years ago. I was lucky I was wearing that, otherwise I would have been in big trouble. “I had an operation on my knee to sort the ligaments out and it was the same knee. The trouble with speedway is you always fall on your left knee when you crash. It twisted, but my brace stopped it twisting all the way around. “I should be alright. The doctor said that there is nothing I can do, all I can do is rest for three or four days, keep icing it and keep it elevated. But I’m going to have some magnetic treatment on it to heal it up.” Richardson was already suspended for Rzeszow’s first meeting back in the Polish Ekstraliga against title favourites Gorzow. His place will be taken by last-gasp Slovenian signing Matej Ferjan. So Richardson has a week to rest his ligaments and resolve the mechanical gremlins which dogged his night against Wolves. The ex-Team Great Britain international had uncharacteristically scored just two paid three from two outings prior to his spill. And Richardson admits he has some work to do on his equipment. He said: “We had a load of problems at the Benevolent Fund meeting with bikes in general. I had all new bikes and I was testing out bits and pieces, but we sorted all that out. “Then I had a good first meeting at Lakeside, but I had a load of problems with the bikes last night. We couldn’t get them running at all. “It’s a little bit tricky setting them up with this new silencer. We’ve been trying to set the engines up a little bit differently as well and it hasn’t been working. But we’ll keep working at it because sometimes you just have problems like this.” From www.speedwaygp.com

Rumour mill has it that we are considering Nicolai Klindt as a replacement for, I should imagine Niemenen....... slightly early I would have thought considering Kake nearly scored a maximum again (admittedly) a depleted Swindon team only a couple of weeks ago
