PETERBOROUGH will have to go into Monday night’s (September 13) Elite League play-offs without in-form reserve Norbert Kosciuch.
Norbi had to pull out of Poznan’s Polish First League match at Miskolc, Hungary, on Sunday afternoon with an eye injury.
And doctors have told him he will need several days to allow the injury to heal before he is ready to race again.
It’s a blow for the Readypower Panthers as they travel to Coventry for the first leg of their semi final against the Bees.
Team boss Trevor Swales said: “We had a text from Norbi’s manager telling us about the injury.
“We know he didn’t ride in Hungary even though he was named in the Poznan team and we are not sure if he will have recovered in time for Friday night’s Knock Out Cup quarter final against Swindon.”
Peterborough will wait until Monday morning to confirm his replacement as they need to clarify the rules governing a facility.
The Panthers believe Kosciuch will be issued with a Green Sheet Average having completed his 12th Elite League match at Lakeside last Monday night.
They will only be able to go up to his average which they believe is fractionally below four points which restricts their choice of a guest.
They have, however, already spoken with the rider they want to come into the squad but will need official confirmation once the British Speedway Promoters’ Association office opens after the weekend.
Peterborough will look to restrict in-form Coventry on their home track and are buoyed by their big win over Eastbourne last Thursday that guaranteed them their play-off spot.
Coventry also have injury worries over their Polish reserve Przemyslaw Pawlicki but Swales said: “I’ll be amazed if he doesn’t ride. He finished runner-up in the Polish Under 21 Final on Saturday with 14 points out of 15 so I can’t see how he is too injured!”
