So there I sat peacefully reading my programme (Panthers viewpoint with Trevor Swales) when I was approached by this pleasant young lady. I thought my luck had changed but it was only zonkers and she's not available! This is what she excitedly thrust in my face ;D
Fans viewpoint
Although I have only been an avid Panthers supporter since August 2006, they quickly became a very important part of my life (too important some might say!). Discovering the Panthers at this pivotal time, just before winning the league title, ignited my enthusiasm and passion for the team and I have rarely missed a home meeting since that time. I first went to speedway in the 70s when my parents took me to see the Teeside Tigers (as we lived in North Yorkshire at the time) and I remember seeing the likes of Ivan Mauger, Peter Collins and Ole Olsen at the various meetings we travelled to. Sadly, after moving south in 1980 I was no longer able to go to speedway due to family circumstances but I always remembered fondly the smells, sounds and excitement of this wonderful sport. My interest in speedway was rekindled whilst on holiday in Dorset in 2006 with an impromptu visit to Poole Stadium. Apart from some minor changes and the crowd size being smaller (Shovlar will love that one!) It was just as exciting as I remembered. Upon returning home I looked up my nearest Elite League team and I discovered that it was Peterborough Panthers. Although we live 50 miles away that didn't put me off. We went along that August bank holiday and the rest, as they say is history! Despite a few blips here and there Panthers have continued to thrive. We are very fortunate to have such a great stadium for our racing and now under the management of Rick Frost we are continuing to go from strength to strength. Despite several unavoidable changes this season we have a very strong team who appeared to get incredibly well (whatever that means), with a positive team spirit. Thank you Rick and EVERYONE concerned for all your hard work and time and money put in. Here's to many more successful years of exciting speedway at the East of England Showground.
Well, I've waffled on long enough but with the play-offs just around the corner I would like to congratulate the team on getting this far and wish them every success.
