SPEEDWAY clubs throughout the country are set to lend their support to Armed Forces Day.
The British Speedway Promoters’ Association have announced their support for the event on Saturday, June 26 – with free admission to service personnel to meetings on or around that date on production of valid service ID.
British Speedway Chairman Alex Harkess said: "We are delighted to offer this opportunity to the Armed Forces recognising the magnificent things they do for the country.
“British Speedway will admit members of the armed forces and their families free of charge with all at the BSPA delighted to be able to offer this opportunity to the forces.”
Elite League club Lakeside were the first club to become involved with the Royal Navy and club owner Stuart Douglas is delighted to see the whole sport showing support.
He said: "All members of the Royal Navy, the Army and the RAF are invited with their families free of charge to come to see speedway at the Raceway.
“We are very proud of our Forces, and delighted that the BSPA have taken this forward across the country."
Commander Steve Pearson of the Royal Navy said: “This tremendous gesture by the BSPA is greatly appreciated by members of the Armed Forces and a number have been in touch looking forward to seeing the action.
“I am sure speedway fans across the country will welcome first timers with the usual friendship of speedway fans to explain the action.
“I know the riders are all looking forward to putting on a great show. Thank you to all from the men and women of the Armed Forces.”
