COVENTRY'S struggling speedway team know the clock is ticking ahead of Thursday's Elite League clash with Lakeside (8pm) - with further team changes seemingly almost inevitable.
The Buildbase Bees, who will introduce Polish youngster Przemyslaw Pawlicki next week, are scouring the market after crashing to a heavy away defeat against title favourites Poole.
Skipper Chris Harris was expected to miss the meeting earlier in the day due to travel arrangements for the weekend's Grand Prix in Poland - but having made it to Wimborne Road, Harris supplied the main resistance with wins in Heats 11 and 13, the latter being a spectacular effort to pass both Bjarne Pedersen and Chris Holder.
Edward Kennett was the other Coventry race winner, beating Holder in Heat 6, but the Pirates had far too much all-round power, with captain Davey Watt scoring a maximum and reserves Artur Mroczka and Leon Madsen both highly impressive.
Manager Alun Rossiter said: "I can't believe how lacklustre we were at the start of the meeting, but losing becomes a habit and we've got to get out of it. We've got to have riders who want to be hungry, and if they're not then we have to ask questions.
"There was a bit more fight in the side in the final few races, we seemed to want it a bit more, but early on it was very frustrating.
"You have to give credit to an exceptional Poole side on their own territory, and I don't think I've seen a team like this for a long time."
Harris does miss the Lakeside match on Thursday, with Bees having booked Peterborough's Niels-Kristian Iversen to guest against a Hammers side who have not raced since beating the Bees nearly a fortnight ago.
Wednesday's scores:
POOLE: Davey Watt 15, Chris Holder 12+1, Artur Mroczka 11+2, Leon Madsen 10+1, Bjarne Pedersen 7+3, Darcy Ward 6+2, Jason Doyle 2+1.
BUILDBASE BEES: Chris Harris 11, Ben Barker 6, Edward Kennett 5, Filip Sitera 3+1, Rory Schlein 3, Ritchie Hawkins 1, Christian Hefenbrock r/r.
Thursday's teams:
BUILDBASE BEES: Niels-Kristian Iversen, Christian Hefenbrock r/r, Rory Schlein, Ben Barker, Edward Kennett, Filip Sitera, Richard Sweetman.
LAKESIDE: Krzysztof Kasprzak, Stuart Robson, Kauko Nieminen, Jonas Davidsson, Adam Shields, Paul Hurry, Daniel Davidsson.
