IPSWICH Witches star Scott Nicholls is ready to put his new club Miskolc firmly on the Polish map.
The Hungarian team has been promoted into the Polish First Division this term and they have recruited former Grand Prix star Nicholls to help them find their feet in the second tier.
After enduring a nightmare campaign with Wroclaw in the top flight in 2009, the Ipswich rider was contemplating sitting out Polish speedway this season. But he is determined to hit top form in the country again as he steps out of the Ekstraliga for the first time in his career.
He said: “Poland and the GPs were a disaster for me last year and I just couldn't get things going. Part of me was willing to sit Poland out this year, or just wait for the season to get going.
“They were keen on having me there, though, and I managed to do a deal I was pretty happy with. I knew I wasn't in the strongest position because of the season I'd had. But I'm looking forward to getting out there and it's going to be new to me.
“I've never raced in that league before. I've always been racing in the top league. But it's something that will be good and I'm looking forward to a new club and a new challenge.”
There is no doubt Miskolc is out on a limb geographically, as Polish riders will have to travel across Slovakia to get to the circuit in the north east of Hungary. But with Czech brothers Ales and Lukas Dryml joining Nicholls in their colours, the Team Great Britain international believes the club is starting to its mark on the sport.
He added: “They're a club which is moving up the ranks. It's strange for a Hungarian club to be in the Polish league, but Daugavpils is a Latvian club and they're in the same league.
“I think James Wright and Cameron Woodward are there too and they're trying to sign someone else as well.
“I like new challenges and meeting new people. Speedway is brilliant for meeting new people and having great contacts.”
