THE FOURS ARE COMING HOME
The Premier League Fours is on its way back home....for a Silver Anniversary reunion. Peterborough's East of England Showground will stage this years showpiece final on Sunday, August 15. The team championship has been a red-letter day in the Premier League calendar since 1976 and is one of speedways longest-running events. It regularly attracts big crowds and is returning to Alwalton after a two-year gap. Peterborough staged its first Four Team Final in 1977 and continued to host the event every year until 2002 when it was switched to Coventry. Since then it has returned to the Showground only once - in 2007 - but for the 25th time Peterborough will stage the event on behalf of the British Speedway Promoters' Association. It is one of the sports Super7even meetings and will involved eight of the Premier League's top clubs with semi finals and the final on the same afternoon. It's appropriate that the event should be back at the Showground as Peterborough celebrate their 40th anniversary season this year. Co-owner Rick Frost said: "Since I took over the Panthers in August, 2008, fans have been asking whether the Fours would ever be back at the track. It clearly has tremendous history at the Showground and we will do everything we can to make sure our 25th hosting of the championship will be one everyone will remember."
