Wimbledon Speedway Supporters Club are pleased to announce the staging of the 'First Great Reunion Bash' on Saturday March 13th 2010.
The venue will be The Quays, Coleford Bridge Road, Mytchett, nr Camberley, Surrey. From 7pm until late.
The evening will be hosted by former Plough Lane presenting legend Mike Bennett, and former riders from down the years are being invited. Food will be available and it is also hoped that there will be an auction of some Wimbledon memorabilia.
Tickets are now available at a cost of £10, and entrance will be strictly by ticket only, although these can be picked up on the day.
For further details please email wimbledonspeedway@o2.co.uk
Barry Briggs has confirmed his attendance and will have copies of his book 'Wembley and Beyond' available on the night.
I hope the evening is a success SG, however !..............
It could, quite rightly be said, that if i'm not planning to go(which i'm not) and have nothing positive to say(which i don't) i should keep my big fat gob shut, but i'm not going to, so there you go !
I find it a great shame that the Wimbledon speedway reunion is not being held somewhere near to Plough Lane. Is it not farcical enough that Wimbledon FC play in Milton Keynes, and back-up Wimbledon FC play in Kingston upon-Thames ? Surely a venue could have been found nearer to the Dons famous home track ?
A reunion IN Wimbledon, would have been of great interest to me, i could have turned up, got as drunk as a sack, embarrassed myself and my infinitely superior 'other half', and never been more than a £10 cab ride from home, but Camberley ? No thanks.
London could quite rightly claim to be Speedway's most historically important City, How things have changed, if it's not even now considered capable of hosting a reunion !
