World speedway champ Crump set for Ben Fund Bonanza at Rye House
Tai Woffinden is to make a return to East Herts in March WORLD Speedway champion Jason Crump and former Rye favourite Tai Woffinden are set to race in Hoddesdon as part of the Ben Fund Bonanza.
A bumper crowd will be expected for the event in March which will see some of the top names in the sport compete on the Rye House track.
The second staging of the Ben Fund Bonanza will be in East Herts on Sunday March 14, with a 2.30pm start.
After last year's successful staging at Sheffield and the boost to the Speedway Riders' Benevolent Fund it was always the intention to make it an annual meeting.
Tai Woffinden in his Rye House Rockets days This year, courtesy of Rockets' promoter Len Silver, it will be the southern fans who will see the all-star event in their area.
The riders are supporting again and the first three names indicate once more the prestige of the event.
Leigh Adams won the Ben Fund Bonanza last year and he will be defending his title at Hoddesdon.
World Champion Crump, subject to fitness, will be backing the event as will ex-Rye House Rocket, now Grand Prix star, Woffinden who is set to return to his old track.
Crump of course won the 2009 World title in spite of the worrying effects of a late-season arm injury at Belle Vue, and he has had to make his appearance conditional on making a proper recovery.
Benevolent Fund secretary Paul Ackroyd said: "Jason's support from the outset has been one of the biggest factors in pushing ahead with these events and I am delighted that he wants to take part again, but it is only fair to make it clear that it depends on his arm injury having mended sufficiently."
Leigh Adams said: "I was very pleased to ride in this meeting last year and even more so to win it, so it has been one of my priorities for 2010 to make sure I was available to defend my Ben Fund title!"
Rockets' fans will very likely have one of their current squad to support but they will certainly also be giving backing to Woffinden who did so well for them in 2007-8.
He of course rode in the Bonanza last year and had no hesitation in booking up for this year's event.
"It will be my first crack of the year at the best riders in the world, and it's on a track I know well. I am looking forward to it," he added.
Obviously a large crowd is expected and to ensure that everyone will be able to view comfortably, Silver will be installing an additional 500 seats and temporary terracing.
Ackroyd added: "Len is conscious of what weather conditions can be like at that time of year and he has told me he will prepare a track suitable for the weather.
