Taken from www.redcarspeedway.co.uk Boss Brian Havelock has expressed his delight after revealing crowd pleaser Maks Gregoric as the first name on his Redcar Bears team sheet for 2010. Team boss and promoter Havelock first drafted in the Slovenian international in September after it became clear that his son, team captain Gary Havelock, would not recover from back injuries in time to race again this season. Gregoric was an instant hit, winning his first two races and scoring paid nine in the Bears’ Jack Young Shield quarter-final first leg against Scunthorpe. He impressed again in the second leg, top scoring with 12 points in only his second Premier League level meeting in Britain.

Former world champion Gary Havelock has signed up for a fifth season with Redcar Bears. www.redcarspeedway.co.uk/html/home.htmlThe Bears could be able to reveal their entire 2010 squad within the next few days should everything go according to plan. Manager Brian Havelock clinched the return of successful comeback man Stuart Swales last week, to add to Gary Havelock, Maks Gregoric and recently crowned ‘Bear of the Year’ Ben Wilson who have already, if not actually signed on the dotted line, secured places in the starting line-up for next season. That leaves three spots and approximately 17 points to play with and Havelock has revealed his first choice seven now depends largely on the availability of one rider.
The South Tees Motorsports Park supremo confirmed: “I’m hoping I will be able to name the entire team within a week. It all hinges on one rider, as I can’t make a move on the other two until he is in line. I can’t say too much more at this stage incase it all falls through but if everything goes to plan we should be pretty much sorted by this time next week. I had three possible teams worked out on paper, covering between about 40 and 43 points, so had the points limit been adjusted one way or the other then I knew where I was going. It’s a whole lot easier now we know it’s remaining at 42.5 and I was confident it would be as it had been stressed that it would stay at that for three years.”
The retention of Stuart Swales means that two of the four riders already on board live within a few miles of the track but it was the now 34-year old’s scoring potential rather than his locality that prompted Havelock into offering a 2010 contract. “I wanted to make sure we strengthened the bottom end as we suffered for a lot of last season without any options at reserve. We missed out last year as we started putting the team together so late and we’ve struggled for strength at reserve for several years now. You look at all the successful squads and they generally have someone at reserve doing the business for them. We’ve never been in a position to move a reserve up into the team so that anyone whose form has dipped can have spell there and gets some points and a confidence boost. I wanted to make sure we alleviated that problem this time around."
Swainby-based Swales only returned to racing last June after over seven years out of the saddle and, but for a painful rib injury and numerous other falls, he might have finished the campaign with a much higher average than his final overall average of 5.18 (Greensheet 4.16). His return will undoubtedly be a popular one as the tenacity shown during the 16 meetings he completed was enough to leave him in third place, behind Wilson and Ty Proctor in the Evening Gazette organised fans poll for ‘Bear of the Year’.
“Last year I had to start from scratch again in terms of getting two new bikes and all the gear,” he explained. “You’re talking thousands and thousands of pounds, and I was hoping for better luck than I had. I’m looking to get out of the reserve berths as soon as I can but I desperately need a sponsor as I want to be set up for the season in the best way possible.”
Redcar have confirmed they will commence their 2010 campaign with a two-legged North-Eastern Challenge against Newcastle, hosting the Tynesiders on Thursday, March 25th with the return at Brough Park three days later.

complete their septet for the 2010 campaign which commences at the South Tees Motorsport Park at 7.30pm on Thursday 25th March with a North-East challenge match against the Newcastle Diamonds.
22-year-old Graversen moves to the Teesside club from the Kings Lynn Stars where he was a member of the Norfolk team's treble-winning team. As such he re-acquaints with Emiliano Sanchez who was a team-mate in 2009. Jan starts the season in a reserve berth meaning that Tomas Suchanek will now ride in the main body of the team.
The 2010 Bears will be: Gary Havelock, Ben Wilson, Maks Gregorik, Emiliano Sanchez, Tomas Suchanek, Stuart Swales and Jan Graversen.
Commented Bears boss Brian Havelock: 'I am pleased to be able to announce our full team before Christmas and it is one that I have a great deal of confidence will be pushing for silverware next season. Certainly the reaction from fans has been positive.'
Of last year's Bears - Ty Proctor will be riding for Wolverhampton in the Elite League; Arlo Bugeja has gone on loan to Sheffield, Carl Stonehewer is reported to be in talks with Glasgow while Robbie Kessler is waiting for an approach. It had orginally been hoped to fit Robbie in but his average was not quite low enough and would have taken the Bears over the team maximum total allowed.www.britishspeedway.co.uk
