Lee Richardson considers legal action against Swindon: From speedwaygp.com
JOBLESS LEE LIVID Team Great Britain international Lee Richardson admits he is considering legal action against parent club Swindon, after losing his place at Lakeside for next year.
The Elit Vetlanda rider (pictured above right) says he is highly unlikely to race in the Elite League in 2010, despite being set to join the Hammers for a second season.
Richardson had agreed a deal with the Essex outfit, but the move was put on ice when Swindon co-promoter Gary Patchett informed Lakeside chief Jon Cook the rider may be needed at Blunsdon.
In a statement on the club’s official website, Patchett claims he told Cook he would be able to give him an answer on Richardson’s availability within four hours of this conversation.
During this time, Hammers signed Polish racer Krzysztof Kasprzak to ensure they did not end up without a number one.
With Robins then deciding they could not fit the former Czestochowa man in, Richardson was left without a team place.
Despite receiving an offer from Belle Vue, the Sussex-based rider says racing home meetings in Manchester on a Monday night was not an option, given his Polish and Swedish commitments on Sunday and Tuesday respectively.
The whole episode has left Richardson fuming and he may seek legal advice as he faces up to 2010 without a British club.
He said: “I’ve been told I can go down that route and whether or not I do is my decision. It’s something I will have to think about.
“I’m just angry because a team place has been taken away from me. Then my own club turned around and said they can’t fit me in. I don’t know why – they haven’t really given me a proper reason.
“It has left me one option – I could go to Belle Vue. But that’s not an option and I was happy at Lakeside.
“I can laugh or I can cry really. It’s frustrating because I’d agreed terms with Lakeside, got a very good deal from them and they were happy with what they were going to pay me.”
Richardson is set to race for Elit Vetlanda in the Swedish Elitserien and Holsted in the Danish Super League. He has also secured a deal with a new Polish team, which is likely to announce the move on Friday.
The 30-year-old says he will now be seeking contracts in Germany and the Czech Republic, as well as a number of opening meetings, to make up for his lack of British action.
But despite an offer from Belle Vue, who have now signed Hans Andersen, Richardson felt joining the Aces was not a viable choice.
He added: “Belle Vue did contact me and I spoke to them, but it’s just not logistically possible. If I didn’t live in Britain and I was a foreigner, it would be a lot easier. I would just fly in and fly out.
“It would be hard work, though, given the airports I fly from because 90 percent of the time, I’m going in and out of Stansted. I looked at every way of doing it, but it’s just not logistically possible.”
Could this be the start of the end of the asset system???

Could this be the start of the end of the asset system??? He would be better off taking the BSPA to court, over the sport destroying averages system, he should fight along similar lines to that Belgian footballer. If something is not done about the average system soon, the sport will disappear down the Kermit, and you'll all be posting how i was right all along(well all except for Genghis, who no doubt will still be banging on about some load of old nonsense)

Can I take legal action against "Sicknote" for his constant absences from British Finals and ELRCs I have gone to in good faith, only to find "Sicknote" has pulled out?

Logistically impossible???
So how come Crump managed it for 6 seasons and Kasprzak didn't grumble about it last year even though he himself was based darn sarf.
Sorry Lee but thank christ you didn't come to Belle Vue.

Sorry Lee but thank christ you didn't come to Belle Vue. Obviously the "not logistically possible" comment was ridiculous Youngy, in speedways early days Belle Vue were regularly in a league with London teams only and that was before any motorways or town by-passes existed, now that must have been a logistical nightmare, however Lee is a good team man and could have forged a decent top order pairing with Hans, so don't be too hard on him, i think the problem is he is yet another Briton is shafted by the daft BSPA rules. I hope for Swindon's sake Lee doesn't take leagal action, this year is going to be hard enough for them as it is with their misplaced loyalty to the declining Leigh Adams.

Can't see how legal action can be taken by "Sicknote" since there is one team who would like to track him - but he's turned them down.

Your sicknote jibe proves that like last year you're not seeing beyond your personal problems with Nicholls and Richardson. Try to see the bigger picture, they are British riders, and this is the British league, Richardson is a better rider than at least half the riders in EVERY TEAM, so EVERY TEAM should be after him. Your suggestion that he should be happy because one team might be interested is an insult. Are you pro British speedway or not ?

Yes, it's unlikely he'll win a case if he does take it to court, but I think at the moment Lee is (rightly) angry. Give him a little time to calm down and I think he'll be okay. Plus he must be at the top of the list if a rider gets injured early on in the season - just because he doesn't have a ride now doesn't mean the situation won't change in a few months. The only problem for him is money - he'll get his regular outings in Poland and Sweden, so he's guaranteed work two days a week. His meetings in Denmark, however, look to be very limited, if any (Niels and Nicki will be sharing the A grade spot, and Lee is, as I understand, a back-up), there aren't many German fixtures, if he can get a place there, and as far as I'm aware, the Russians still have a ban on foreigners. He may be able to pick up a couple of meetings in the Czech league, but again that wouldn't be many.

Hatcham, I am very much pro-British Speedway, but that doesn't include riders who quite enough dno't bother to show. Richardson has missed countless meetings down the years - league matches, testimonials, Brtiish Finals, ELRCs etc. I have no sympathy for Sicknote.

Or the fact that Bruce Penhall is one of my favourite ever speedway riders? When did Juicy Brucie ride for the Cheetahs - I must have missed it. I don't like Lee Richardson because he's a continual piss-taker whose has had pulled more "sickies" than he's had hot dinners.

What about the principle behind my point Genghis, or can you only see your gripe ? Does the ELRC 'no show' supercede everything ? If masked gunman were to burst into Rico's home tonight and exterminate his whole family, the forums would be full of the horrors of the awful tragedy, would you be chirping in with "He didn't turn up at the ELRC so i couldn'y give a shit" "More sick days, hot dinners Blah blah" ?

Probably not, but he'd certainly be questioning your whereabouts.
