Panthers will remain Elite
SPEEDWAY: Panthers supremo Rick Frost has denied suggestions the club are preparing to drop into the lower-class Premier League.
Frost claims comments he made during a recent BBC Radio Cambridgeshire interview were taken well out of context. The Berkshire businessman, who saved the city club from the brink of possible extinction when taking over from Colin Horton 15 months ago, remains completely committed to top-level Elite League racing.
Frost said: “We are an Elite League club - simple as that. The way things have been reported is not in context.
“I merely stated during the interview that running in the Premier League would be our only hope of balancing the books with our current level of attendances due to the lower costs that would be involved.
“But that is not a concern at this stage. I can afford to run the club at a loss for another 20 years if I so choose.
“We are committed to being in the Elite League and we are already working on building a team for next season.”
Frost is expected to announce a new promoter in the next few days to replace departed Mick Bratley.
He added: “Several people would like the job. We have a few options open to us and all will become clear shortly.”
Panthers hold their end-of-season dinner and dance at the Marriott Hotel tomorrow night.
