Inconsistency cost us
PANTHERS owner Rick Frost admits a lack of consistency cost the club as their Elite League play-off pursuit ended in failure.
The city side had to settle for a fifth-place finish - one position and five points short of the battle for honours, but Frost confirmed he is more determined than ever to deliver success in 2010.
And he hopes the wealth of experience and knowledge of 1980 world champion Michael Lee will help turn them from nearly men into winners. Lee is often present at Peterborough meetings but has now been made the club's technical advisor.
Frost said: "It was disappointing not to make the play-offs as we were so close. But we have to be realistic and admit that beating either Swindon or Wolverhampton would have been a tall order made worse by having to give them either a four or eight-point handicap advantage.
"On track it has been a bit of a roller coaster year. We have seen some really good team performances and some equally poor ones. Enough has already been said and written but I can sum it up in one word - inconsistency.
"All the team need to be consistenyl at their best to win the league next year which will of course be the aim.
"Our away record is poor to say the least and that has to be put right. Our gating has not been good enough and this must be improved if we are to win away meetings regularly.
"Michael Lee is now firmly established as our technical advisor and he will be at all meetings next year to help our riders with getting the right set-ups.
"We have improved considerably on last season by finishing in a strong fifth place, well clear of the four teams below us.
"I now have the task of putting together a strong and exciting team for next year to achieve my goal of winning the league for our 40th anniversary year."
And Frost has also made a plea for increased support both at home and on the road as Panthers bid to turn this season's near-miss into success next year.
He added: "Apart from a few loyal regulars our away support is non-existent which doesn't help much. Why do more of you not come and give your support to the team?
"I really hope more people will come to both home and away meetings next year to help me achieve my aim."
