I wonder if we could be in for a surprise finalist here? A surprise finalist from that semi would have been Elit Vetlanda, with the conditions at hand, so no, not a surprise finalist in that one. The place in the final was Vargarna's to lose. IMO. (Sour grapes, I know...) Some rider comments from the second semifinal in Vetlanda; For Elit Vetlanda, Richardson was great despite hurting his foot when his chain snapped in his opening ride. R/R for Crump scored 9 points. Hampel had his mandatory bad heats but can't be faulted for a great effort, and he also team-rode very well on several occasions. Hougaard blew hot and cold, but had some cracking races with aggressive riding. Miskowiak didn't gate, didn't score, but it wasn't due to a lack of effort. Jonasson can't have two bad heats like that where he doesn't seem to find the set-up, though he finished fairly strong. Aldén was slow. Aspegren only rode one time, won't judge him on that. For Vargarna, Miedzinski was IMO the top Wolf of the night, he was always in the thick of action despite being on the opposite end of a couple of 5-1's. Shields was solid but unspectactular and shipped in with a fine paid eight. Nicholls ain't better at this track, as he can't gate to save his life or isn't quick enough on the track. Kasprzak was OK, but never looked like troubling the top riders of the home side. Woffinden started like a train and even though he faded some, he was class. Fantastic team-riding at times. Nilsson should have had more heats, can't for my life understand why he didn't get a fourth ride. Andersson only had one ride, so I won't judge him. Man of the match: Jaroslaw Hampel Most exciting rider: Patrick Hougaard

Yeah but tell you what then Ghostwalker, let's not ride any meetings but decide who wins on paper at full strenght instead. That way we'll eliminate factors such as luck, unexpected improvement, team spirit and injuries! Vetlanda was the strongest team this year, and thus won the series. But that's no guarantee you'll win the play-offs, in any sport. I think that's pretty beutiful.

It was a great regular season from the Elit Vetlanda team, and it certainly made me happy because many people didn't think that highly of the team line-up before the season started. Many predictions went in Dackarna and/or Piraterna's way, with Elit Vetlanda destined for a mid-table place. First place in the regular season is no guarentee as you write. It (playoff) could probably be described as a "pretty beautiful" fact (though that's not particulary cheerful at the moment, for me as an Elit Vetlanda supporter), and the rules are know to every team so no-one can complain. Is it frustrating? Sure, it is, I would lie if I told you something else.

Yes, I'm not sure I'd be happy in your position either, Anders. It's only because Lejonen and Vargarna were in the top four I'm happy. But had Walasek, Monberg and Protasiewicz managed just a couple more points last night, we'd have had the sixth placed team in the final, and possibly winning the league. Can't say I like the idea of that much.

Agree with you, with 8 (or 9, as it was when the season started) teams in the league, 4 teams to the semifinal are enough. 6 of 8 to the playoff is ridiculous, and even more so with the Lucky Loser rule.

Indeed, but from a pure sporting point of view there really should be no play-offs at all. The best team wins the league, over a whole season. But I can accept that a play-off is "needed" because of the extra interest, excitement and money it generates.

Anders, do you know why Vetlanda scrapped the plan from previous years where they always had one big cannon and an equal in reserve? When Holta was the king of Vetlanda, there was always Crump waiting in the wings to step in if Holta was injured, for the past few seasons. This year, Vetlanda had no real cover for Crump and ofcourse he came down with an injury at the worst possible time. Do you think Vetlanda wanted that cover but couldn't find a suitable rider to be a massive reserve, or was it that they cheaped out and hoped they wouldn't need that cover?
