This is your chance to show your support to Oxford Speedway!
Allen Trump would like to see a crowd of 1000 for this meeting - some 400 or so more people than we've been getting for our recent home meetings, where attendances have been rising, but being a bank holiday, it would be great to get a bumper crowd.
What would be tremendous is if the attendance could surpass even Mr. Trump's expectations. That's why I'm asking WWoS members to help out, and get along to Oxford on the Bank Holiday. Oxford is in quite a central position and not far away for quite a few of you.
Remember Mr. Trump came in mid-season, and to keep speedway at Oxford paid the outstanding rent arrears left by the previous promotion. This would be a way to return the gratitude of not only Oxford fans but all British Speedway fans towards Allen Trump.
Let's prove to everyone, including those who have treated Oxford Speedway badly, that speedway at Cowley can be a success!
The meeting starts promptly at 3.00pm, and should be over at just after 5.00pm, and 5.30pm at the latest, which allows people to do both Oxford and Coventry OR Oxford and Reading on the Bank Holiday.
The match is something of a "grudge" match - there's no love lost between Oxford and Plymouth. This cup replay is certain to be a keenly-fought contest.
For a great day of speedway on the Bank Holiday, why not visit Oxford in the daytime, and then Coventry or Reading at night. Cheers guys!

Paulco,
Thanks mate... I didn't really expect you to come down all the way from Glasgow but your comments are appreciated (BTW, Lee Smethills is going like a rocket).
My comments were more aimed at those going to Coventry at night, e.g. any Lakeside fans... cough, cough.. Kev H... cough ;D ;D

Assuming I'm not working (which I normally do on Bank Holidays) I might well have a go at this one.

Monday, August 27, 2007 OXFORD LCD PUBLISHING CHEETAHS 61 PLYMOUTH DEVILS 29 (Conference League Knockout Cup, quarter-final replay, first leg)
Things are just getting better and better for the Oxford Cheetahs.
Just two days after a convincing win at Rye House, the Cheetahs again turned on the style – to massacre the Plymouth Devils and place one foot in the Conference League Knockout Cup semi-finals.
It’s hard to believe that on their previous two visits to Cowley this season, Plymouth had won one match by six points and lost the other by a single point. This time around, they were well beaten – and even failed to provide a single heat-winner.
You have to go back to August 3 for the last time an opposing rider won a race at Cowley – when Luke Bowen won Heat 15 of the Oxford v Rye House encounter. Since then, Sittingbourne, Cleveland and Plymouth have all visited Sandy Lane – and all have failed to get a rider past the chequered flag in first place. That's 45 successive races at Oxford won by a home rider.
Another stark statistic is that in the last three home meetings, the Cheetahs have scored a massive 202 points, in contrast to just 68 for the visitors. Given that Oxford is such a fair racetrack, that’s a highly impressive record.
Yesterday’s meeting took place in front of a very healthy bank holiday crowd. It was great to see the Oxford public respond to promoter Allen Trump’s challenge and come out in force to support the side.
Lee Smethills was a convincing winner of Heat 1 ahead of Rob Smith, with Kyle Hughes drilling inside Seemond Stephens on the first lap, as the Cheetahs opened with a 4-2.
Better was to follow as Brendan Johnson and Scott Campos shot out from the tapes in Heat 2. Campos withstood pressure from firstly Tim Webster and then Ben Hopwood, as he started his home debut for Oxford with a paid win.
Tom Brown & Jamie Westacott looked to make amends for Plymouth’s poor start when they took an early lead in Heat 3. However, Jordan Frampton wasted no time in passing Westacott. Westcott then pulled up with an engine failure, somewhat impeding Hughes in the process, while Frampton blasted inside Brown on the back straight of lap 2 to take a hard-earned win.
Danny Betson won a shared Heat 4 ahead of Nicki Glanz and Hopwood in a time of 60.96 seconds – just 0.24 outside of the new Conference League track record he had set against the Cleveland Bays ten days earlier.
Smethills & Frampton took a convincing 5-1 in Heat 5, with Stephens quite a way behind in third place. Stephens then withdrew from the meeting, reported to be because of chest pains.
With Smethills & Hughes banging in another 5-1 in Heat 6, the Cheetahs were already 16 points ahead – a far cry from the first staging of this fixture, which had been a real nip-and-tuck affair.
Betson won a shared Heat 7, and then Plymouth team manager Derek Davey took a risk in Heat 8 – by placing Tom Brown as a tactical substitute off the 15m handicap. It didn’t work out. Brown’s team-mate Smith suffered an engine failure at the tapes, and Brown was left chasing second-placed Brendan Johnson. Brown closed in on the youngster, but Johnson held his nerve, and a last-ditch attempt by Brown to move inside Johnson on the third bend of the final lap saw Brown hit the deck, and he had to remount to take the solitary third-placed point.
Frampton & Betson had no problems taking a 5-1 in Heat 9 as the scoreline moved to 39-15.
Hughes suffered a puncture in Heat 10, but Smethills won his fourth race of the afternoon. Heats 11 & 12 were also shared – with Betson and Frampton winning the races.
Betson & Smethills were in a class of their own in Heat 13, while Frampton & Johnson took a 4-2 from Heat 14. Westacott took second place in the latter race, and his non-nomination as a tactical ride by the Plymouth management was perplexing – as they had not used the option in any of the previous 13 races.
The Cheetahs looked like they would finish with another 5-1 in Heat 15, as Smethills & Frampton shot into the lead. However, Brown fell on the fourth turn and became wedged under the fence, resulting in a stoppage. In the re-run, Frampton forgot to turn his fuel on, and was half a lap behind by the time he remedied the situation, but nevertheless a 4-2 to the Cheetahs took the final scoreline to 61-29 in Oxford’s favour, a huge margin to take down to the St. Bonniface Arena for the second leg a week on Friday (September 7).
Frampton gained some consolation for missing out on his maximum when he was selected as the Linda De Boise Memorial Rider Of The Night. It was a deserving reward as Frampton had worked hard for his paid 16 tally, coming through the field in Heat 3 and winning Heat 9 on a quickly-repaired saddle.
Meanwhile, both Smethills and Betson both blasted to untroubled paid maximums, with Betson dashing off as soon as the meeting was completed, for a guest booking for Premier League Isle Of Wight.
Hughes and Johnson gave excellent support, while Scott Campos took a superb paid win in Heat 2 on his home debut for the Cheetahs.
