Oxford haven't had an Elite League team for two or three years now - why are they still on the EL board?
Sits back and waits for Rob to bite

Sits back and waits for Rob to biteKev, Until Sub creates a seperate CL section (how about it.... "Genghis's CL section" ;D ;D), the Oxford news is stuck in the Elite League section... otherwise where do I post? ;D Anyway, I see that the Conference League club has attracted more posts than any of the Elite League clubs. Says much about the current state of the Delete League... er sorry Elite League. Incidentally, while not biting surely the Craven Shield winning side from 2005 (which happened a mere 21 months ago... good god, hasn't a lot happened since then?) was a decent Elite League side, even though our EL campaign was wrecked by Billy Hamill's injury. All the best Rob

I'm sure you're aware that my post was made with the sole intention of rattling you Rob, and you didn't let me down. On a more serious note, yes that team which clinched the Craven Shield in '05 was a good, solid entertaining team, of that there is no doubt. I was there that night - a last heat decider if memory serves me right, a superb firework display and an emotional farewell from Waggy. Rumours abounded on the terraces that night as to who would be taking over the promotional rights, but no hint was given at the press conference. Many folk were openly saying they were glad to see the back of Waggy and that the new (unannounced) man would breathe a breath of fresh air into the club - sadly history has proved them very, very wrong!! Currently, word on the street in Oxfordshire is making similar claims about Oxford's future under their latest regime - and this time I tend to agree and send my sincere best wishes to Mr Trump for his enterprises at both Oxford and indeed, Exeter.

So what's the script with Donald Trump anyway ? Are Exeter on their way back to the PL and are Oxford going to run in the PL? If yes to both questions , then where does the bold Donald go as he wouldn't be able to promote at both venues if they are in the same league .

Waggy wasn't the worst promoter ever, and in the right circumstances might even have been a fairly reasonable one. Unfortunately, he didn't have the cash to back-up his ambitions, and by his last season at Oxford, the constant team changes and cancelled meetings (no doubt for budgetary reasons) had tried the patience of the fans. I think Lanney also had the right intentions, but again didn't have the cash to back things up. Sadly, you knew it was going to end in tears. The Purchases were probably the best of an indifferent lot in recent years, and made a reasonable go of things. However, even they weren't prepared to continue to throw money down a black hole. It simply shows that radical changes are needed in the BEL (which incidentally I said back in 2001 www.meynell.com/speedway-articles/league-competition.html). None of the above were actually bad promoters, but they still couldn't make Oxford pay.

If yes to both questions , then where does the bold Donald go as he wouldn't be able to promote at both venues if they are in the same league . Paulco, Tony Mole is owner of both Workington and Birmingham, so it is posssible to own two clubs in the same league, even though Oxford have had a recent example of how it shouldn't be done. Peter Oakes is in charge of team matters at Cowley. If Allen Trump was to appoint a seperate Director Of Speedway at Exeter, and again give them carte blanche when it comes to team matters, there would not be any conflict of interest. Allen Trump seems like a throroughly decent chap. If he owned two clubs, I couldn't see him put either one before the other. All the best Rob

Well, if you want to sit and type out your rather extensive database for us you can have your own section too. PS. I'm having a bit of a nightmare with posts today and accidentally modified yours without changing it, if you see what I mean. Sube does it all the time, and it must be catching.

Bloody Hell Schumi, now he's got his own section he'll be intolerable. No more intolerable than before, surely Blimey, you didn't want Oxford in the EL section, now you're moaning about the all-new sparkling CL section that came about as a result. Bloody Arena fans ;D ;D All the best Rob
