Not going to use this as an excuse to have a dig at the guy - there's enough of that elsewhere - and he is a great rider and fantastic ambassador for the sport.
I think Leigh has a two year contract, but looking at the current form in the Elite League, would the points taken up by Leigh be better used to field a stronger middle order and bottom end? If it's possible to tempt Zagar back for next year, there wouldn't be a lot of change needed to create another potentially league winning side.
I'm not disputing Leigh brings a lot to Swindon, but it's no secret he'll be looking at retirement soon, if not the end of this year. Whilst a few years back it was useful to have someone of Leigh's calibre at number one, the field in the Elite League has diminished, and now it's no longer the case. And Leigh himself has looked in need of a break lately.
It would be the end of an era for Swindon, but maybe time to move on?

I guess it depends on what happens at the conference this year....If the opening points limit stays the same, using up so many points on Leigh could be seen as something of a waste... However, it also has to be remembered that Leigh is almost guaranteed to race every week and deliver solid points every week. I hate to be the person that disses Matej, as I love watching him race (much more than Leigh), but he hasn't proved to be the most reliable signing in the past....Maybe he has changed and would offer the same commitment that Leigh has given his UK clubs over the last 20 years.....but would you take that chance?

He's reliable, a great asset in helping the younger riders and very handy in Heats 13 & 15 in a tight situation. How could you replace him with Matej "shall I bother to turn up this week" Zagar??

I guess it depends on what happens at the conference this year Speaking of which, ae we any closer to knowing what this amazing thing to come out of the BSPA conference a few months ago was? What happened to that? Genghis, I think you're being a bit unfair on Matej - didn't Wacks say his absence for Reading was only due to him being owed money? He's only missed one meeting for Swindon, and that was fair enough.

What happened to that? The sceptic in me says that it's probably some other hair-brained and complicated scheme which will do nothing to bring the punters through the gates! The average next year will be 40.95, according to the "three year plan" which Jon Cook says the BSPA intend to stick to.

Leigh will be having his last season next year ...him and cory are the two def starters. Adams will decide when he wants to go not anyone else ..and anyone at swindon who made him who be ran out of town .

It's not hard to see where Poole's problems lie. Their second strings and reserves (Madsen aside) aren't just a little off pace, they're miles behind. And when the top three are being beaten by riders of McGowan and Stead's calibre, the Pirates haven't a hope. It was a gamble on team-building that simply doesn't work, which is why I mentioned perhaps using Leigh's points to bulk out the reserves, etc. But on tonight's showing you certainly don't need to lose him.

Swindon skipper Leigh Adams looks set to hang up his kevlars at the end of 2010, after the BSPA granted him a farewell meeting.
The ten-time Australian champion quit Grand Prix racing this year, although he will ride on in the British Elite League with Swindon and the Polish Ekstraliga with Leszno.
But Adams is set to stage a farewell meeting at Blunsdon in October 2010 and Robins promoter Gary Patchett admits this will probably be his final appearance in the UK.
He told the Speedway Star: “It is hard to name the date right now, but it will be after the Grand Prix series and the Polish league are over so that Leigh can pull in the best riders possible.
“Once the season gets underway, we will finalise a date with Leigh, but we do want to make sure it is after the play-offs so that, in every sense, it brings the curtain down on the season.
“Leigh is returning early (from Australia) and will be back in a few weeks. Even without the Grand Prix, he still has a busy schedule and is hoping as much as anyone that we can finally bring the league title back to Blunsdon after all the blank years.
“Although he has not announced next season as his retiring date, the fact that the BSPA have given their permission does mean that it is virtually certain it marks the end of his Elite League career.
“It will be a wrench for him, but he is a family man and puts the future of children Declyn and Casey high on his list of priorities.”

Have to hope for better weather in Poland, or a bit of sense over the timing of the Polish play-offs or they could find themselves running out of time.
