I guess it doesn't really matter anymore. But one can't help but wonder what exactly was the truth regarding Piotr Protasiewicz.
At the recent fans forum a statement to the effect that Protasiewicz was staying with the club for the duration of the season was made by Colin Horton. However, since that time Protasiewicz seems to have been singing a different tune according to speedwayworld.tv:
"I WANT to focus on the Polish league, as I am not doing as well as I can here." Piotr Protasiewicz has explained his decision to exit British Elite League racing this season.
Oxford Cheetahs decided to withdraw from the BEL and Piotr is available to talk to other clubs, but he claims that for the last few weeks he had planned to quit England.
"I am not tired, I just need time to sort some things out. And it is not possible when you race 4-5 times a week. I need to do some testing," admits 'Pepe'.
"I had a clause in my contract that allowed me to leave Oxford after the end of May. However, the club was withdrawn from the Elite League. I know little about this decision," admits Protasiewicz, who will now focus on his Polish club - ZKS Zielona Gora, who are competing to remain in Extraleague this season.
Of course, this isn't the first time that rumours of PePe only fulfilling half a season in the UK have surfaced. Similar rumours abounded at the start of last season and PePe managed almost a full season with the Witches. Perhaps the unfortunate fall of the Cheetahs saved PePe from having to make a difficult decision?
