I would like to nominate last night's referee (was it Frank Ziegler??) for his ridiculous exclusions of Harris and Pedersen in the second semi-final. The ref was awful all night, from the moment the Russian nutjob avoided exclusion for causing Holta to fall in Heat 1. The meeting (on perhaps the best ever surface prepared for Cardiff) was coming to a climax nicely and then the berk of a ref excluded Harris for something that wasn't his fault.

I had the perfect view of both these incidents and Bombers exclusion was the right call, and Nicki's wasn't. Seriously, no bias whatsoever.......Bomber should have gone and then all three back after the second incident.

Ok decision time... The ref does come a very close second to this week's winner, which can come under the banner of Team Sajfutdinov. Seems harsh to nominate Emil alone for his little diva strop after nothing more than a hard race. Emil did redeem himself with the loan of his bikes to Andersen towards the end of the meeting but what has swayed my verdict is the actions of Master Holloway. Total flapperjack behaviour on this occasion, wading in when there was no need. Pit crew should be seen and not heard...

Holloway does seem to be milking his fifteen minutes and not in an entirely positive way. But, it did give me a giggle. I don't know what all the fuss is about regarding the fisticuffs between Sajfutdinov and the global superstar. It was good fun.

Good call. The Nicholls and Sayfutdinov fisties was great fun, but Holloway's action was cowardly. Running past Nicholls at speed giving him an aggressive shove and then running off. Definate cnut. Just like his dad, thick as pig shit.

Yes, I would say so. Off to Cardiff shortly, but will post it sometime tomorrow (depending on how quickly I get back from Rye) or Monday - if someone else doesn't beat me to it. Presumably you're back?

From page 17 of Quantum Of Shale:
If the British Speedway Forum attracts forthright opinions, then another site called the Weird World Of Subedei is an Internet forum where posters comment on speedway matters with remarkable frankness. Indeed, the common language of men and a refreshing cynicism percolates throughout the various topics discussed by its members on this forum. They even have an award called the "Flapperjack of the Week". This isn't an award that anyone in speedway would necessarily go out of their way to covet. The FotW award has been previously won by many luminaries with connections to the sahle and these include characters like John Postlethwaite, Nigel Pearson, Kelvin Tatum MBE and Haringey Council. To this list of august names, can now be added that of Derek Barclay. Anyone who rushes to their dictionary to check the exact meaning of the word "Flapperjack" will be sadly disappointed as I suspect your dictionary, like mine, offers no direct translation. Suffice to say, certain words shouldn't be used in polite company or, even, on the Internet. So, instead, in a weird example of a kind of speedway version of metonymy on this website a coded alternative word is used to stand in place of the more explicity descriptive word that the posters would really like to use. The choice of winner usually requires lengthy debate amonsgst the forum posters about the relative merits/demerits of various alternative candidates. Ultimately the bad grace of his comments wins Derek the "week 34-week 35 "FotW award.
Incidentally this book is very funny in places. A comment on page 278 regarding a statue and Colin Horton made me laugh out loud. I love Jeff Scott's writing style.

You do realise, genghis, that you yourself picked the winner that week? Thanks for that - very interesting.

You do realise, genghis, that you yourself picked the winner that week? Shhhhh, I get on the wrong side of Mr. Barclay enough as it is. Fortunately that wasn't printed.

I'll add a nomination for Ashley Holloway. No fan of Nicholls, and thought the punch up between him and the mad Ruski was hilarious and even funnier when I got to see it on Sky, but there was no need for the pit crews to get involved. Think he's (Holloway) definately looking for his 15 minutes of fame at the moment.
Also thought letting Andersen use Sayfutdinov's bikes in the semi's & final smacked of desperation to me. The Ruski's camp know Crumpy is on it this year and is going to take some stopping, quite bizarre that they would let another rider use the bikes in the hope of keeping the championship points difference closer.

I second Holloway's nomination. He should have been booted out of the pits and fined.
