I don't think we should have meetings live on Sky. It is killing the attendances at meetings as people just want to sit on their arses and watch it on TV. I would be quite happy for recorded meetings to be on TV.

You're preaching to the converted mate . Speedway on the telly is no substitute for the real thing anyway and why anyone would choose to watch it that way rather than going is beyond me . Apart from the exposure speedway gets ( although i've never came across any non-speedway fans who actually watch the SKY meetings ) - i don't really see what speedway gets out of the SKY deal . The money is a pittance and clubs hosting a meeting must lose money on the night . A weekly highlights programme would suffice .

It does happen though. Like Lakeside on Monday, how many more would have been there if it hadn't been live on TV? Cardiff would fill up more also. Being there gets you out of the house, you get the atmosphere, smell and get to meet different people from all over the world.

Having speedway on Sky also allows them that cant afford to go in touch with the sport. Right now with so many out of work speedway could lose more fans in the long run if those who are struggling just now cant have access to meetings. Sky offers that, also for us Scots who have no EL any further north than Manchester it is a chance for us to get a weekday fix of the sport we love.

Sppedway live on Sky is brilliant. I love it. Recorded meetings wouldn't have even a quarter the appeal for me.
It's true that it effects the crowds, but when clubs make special promotions for Sky meetings it does seem to work pretty well in general and get people in.
We're lucky to have it. Don't know why people complain about it really.

I love haveing live speedway on Sky ! What would be the point of watching a recorded meeting, where you already know the score....? What's the excitement in that....? It's the fact that it's live that makes it more exciting. And, I agree with Grachan - I think they should always offer heavily discounted tickets for meeting where Sky are present. I have always said that. It's not very often per club, is it? Well, certainly not in the case of Peterborough anyway !

I know people live in places where Elite League clubs are miles away but if/when I live in Scotland I won't be bothered watching a recorded meeting. I will still make the effort to visit Elite League and Premier clubs during the season.
Tonight I will miss the speedway on TV, working. But I am not bothered, I will just keep my ears closed, stay off the threads relating to the meeting and probably not watch Sky Sports News.

It's the same balance with most sports. However, the more well-attended sports could possibly stand up on their own but given the lack of sponsorship lately, the television money is becoming more of a necessarity esp. for the massive teams in sport.
Minor sports such as Basketball and Ice Hockey virtually went bankrupt when Sky stopped televising them and the situation has been dull since. Both sports are seeking television deals desperately, offering themselves to some extremely small fry broadcasters from the satellite world.
