Batch out, Zagar in for the rest of the season:
MATEJ Zagar will stay in Robins’ colours for the remainder of the 2009 season after agreeing terms to extend his initial short term contract with the club.
The Slovenian replaces Troy Batchelor in the Swindon team and has made an excellent contribution during his short stint with Alun Rossiter's side.
Twenty six year old Zagar has ridden impressively for Swindon since making his debut at Peterborough on 25th May. The former Grand Prix rider has amassed a hefty paid eighty six point haul from seven meetings and proved an immediate fans’ favourite on the Abbey Stadium terraces.
Indeed, Zagar’s eye catching form has helped Swindon open up a two point lead at the top of the Sky Sports Elite league.
Swindon co-owner Gary Patchett said:
‘It’s clear that Matej’s inclusion has had a profound impact on the squad. The opportunity to extend his stint with Swindon was one that couldn’t be missed. Matej’s form, particularly away from home, has clearly strengthened the middle order of the team significantly.
Matej himself is very keen to stay at the Abbey Stadium for the remainder of the season. Discussions with a view to making Matej a full asset of the club are ongoing.
It is ironic that an injury to a valued member of the team has prompted this change. The reaction from Troy Batchelor was one of disappointment but exceptional professionalism.
He understands that the management needed to look at the bigger picture when considering this decision. Troy’s attitude has been first class throughout this process.
We release Troy from the 2009 Swindon squad reluctantly but with both parties aware that he remains an integral part of this club’s future.
Everyone at Swindon Speedway wishes Troy every success for the remainder of the campaign and his plans will become clearer in the next few days.’
