Just seen this on BSF....
My thoughts are with Rob Woffinden who is currently fighting serious illness! Rob has been the backbone of the development of a new track Pinjar Park speedway in Perth Australia! He has worked hard behind the scenes and with track preparation, to encourage the youngsters in Western Australia including son Tai who is now a success story in his own right! Rob rode throughout the late 70,s and 80,s in the then Premier league. I,m sure you will all wish him well as he is currently in the UK with family and supporting Tai!

Technically, it was the then National League, but this is indeed sad news. Rob Woffinden was seldom more than a "bit part" player for the various clubs he rode for, but such riders are really the backbone of the sport. He had a good season for the cruel, crazy town in 1987, probably his best in the sport and then had a few more seasons before heading to Australia. By all accounts a decent fellow, who always had time for the fans and I believe he was instrumental in putting together the field for Rob Grant's testimonial in 1987. I wish him well in the future and hope he gets over this illness.
