And we kick this thread off with bad news for Poole: PIRATES’ early-season injury crisis went from bad to worse after Kyle Legault was declared doubtful through injury for their Elite League Shield return against Eastbourne on Wednesday.
Jason Doyle is already out for at least four months, probably more, with a torn rotator cuff in his left arm and shoulder.
Now Legault appears to have aggravated the broken leg he sustained in a fall last year while with Premier League Birmingham.
The Canadian, who had appeared to get over any fitness problems when he won the Argentinean title during the winter, struggled to score two points from three rides at Arlington yesterday.
Poole Castle Cover lost the Shield first leg 49-41 with Legault withdrawing early from the meeting, forcing fellow reserve Carl Stonehewer to take seven ‘point-less’ rides in the Canadian’s absence.
During the meeting interval after heat 10, Pirates chief Matt Ford informed the crowd during a centre green interview that Legault “had aggravated a leg injury”.
After heat 15, Pirates team manager Neil Middleditch added: “We’re going to try to get him to a specialist and take it from there.
“At the moment he’s looking a bit doubtful for Wednesday’s meeting against Eastbourne at Poole.”
Middleditch was relatively pleased with Pirates’ performance at Arlington, saying: “There are a lot of positives to take out of it.”From: www.bournemouthecho.co.uk

Glenn Phillips replaces Kyle Legault, with R/R for Jason Doyle.
How many zeros will Stonehewer clock up on the trot before someone has an e/f and gifts him a point ?
Whats the odds on another scoreless seven for the ex GP star tonight ?

Whats the odds on another scoreless seven for the ex GP star tonight ? He's unlikely to get seven, unless another Pirate falls victim to injury and I'm sure none of us would want that. I suspect that Stonehewer will have three rides. As for him scoring, I'm not so sure, but it would be a devastating blow to Kling's confidence if he can't beat Stonehewer.

But surely Stonehewer and Phillips will be at reserve and will have to cover two of Doyle's rides that means they would have to take ten rides between them, do you expect Phillips to take 7 rides ?

Even with the weaker reserves, I expect Poole to win this meeting and the Shield overall. I just hope all the Eagles get through the meeting and are ready to knock those pesky Hammers out the cup again

It says something about the league this year when anyone has reserves weaker than Gustaffson and Kling at the moment According to SpeedwayUpdates, they got a 5-1 in Ht 2 and your "Seahawks" are leading by 3-9 after Ht 2. And yes, Stonehewer kept his remarkable record going. Edit: But the Flopster takes pity on his former Great Britain colleague and tumbles in Ht 4, so Stonehewer gets a point, at last.

I was just coming on to say, hats off to you Schumi you were totally correct over the outcome, and Gustafsson and Bridger in particular look in fine form. Well done you.

Hats off to Bobby D too. It looks like he could be the making of Lewis Bridger. Bridger has always had the ability and it looks like answering to Bobby D is getting the best out of him. Never under-estimate Bobby D - he knows his way around the sport.

Thank you, although I was only teasing you about the gloating. To be honest, I don't think Doyle would have made much of a difference tonight. If Floppy gets it together and Dryml - well, stops falling off before Lakeside fixtures - you could have a great team there.

Some of us in the family love Gustaffson. Assuming one of those is Gustafsson, he looks like a member of the family.

Looks like Eastie are starting the season as they finished last year....with a trophy....oh dear what will Mr Shovit have as an excuse this time, especially as Eastie are riding without their "top" scorer Damien
