I admit I know nothing about betting, but I guess that means the bookies have Swindon as favourites to win the league? Not sure about that, myself, and I'd have had Peterborough higher. Although Rosco seems to think Stead will be a decent signing. From http://www.speedwayworld.tv:
SWINDON boss Alun Rossiter is backing Simon Stead to make significant gains on his average this season. Stead has joined the Robins in a swap deal which has seen Charlie Gjedde make the switch to Belle Vue, and goes to Blunsdon after a year on loan at Coventry when there was little change to his average. But Rossiter feels the influence of Swindon skipper Leigh Adams could have a great effect on the British rider. He said: "I think he will help Simon a lot this year. Everyone knows he is a talented rider, and with Leigh's help I think he can iron out his riding style. "He simply needs to avoid pulling great big lockers, he knows that and everyone else does too. "While he was with Jason Crump, I think he started to sort that, and Leigh Adams can have the same influence on him. "I've known Simon well for a long time, he is a genuinely nice lad from a good family and he has a very positive take on his move to Swindon."

The weird world of speedway appears to have the dear old bookmakers in a right old tiss before the turn of a wheel. William Hill have Swindon odds on at 10/11 and have Peterborough fourth favourites at 8/1, Bet365 on the other hand make Swindon a 6/4 shot with the Boro close second favourites at a mere 3/1. meanwhile over in Gibraltar, the layers with the largest speedway betting market, Stan James, are yet to price up and join the fray.
Bottom line is, its currently possible to back, Swindon, Peterborough, west ham, Poole, Wolverhampton and Coventry, and make a profit if ANY of them win the league.

Betting on the Elite League at the minute is a bit of a lottery, since it's only when the mid-season changes kick in that you get a real idea of who ranks where. While I accept that Poole were pre-season favourites last season (together with Coventry), if they hadn't shipped out Zabik and Suchecki I don't think they'd have been champs.

Betting on the Elite League at the minute is a bit of a lottery Very true, but for anyone who fancies, Poole, west ham, Peterborough or Wolverhampton there are fancy prices currently available, which will quickly disappear if they make a decent start.

Hatcham - if I watned to bet on, say, Peterborough, how exactly would I go about it. Do I have to set up an online account, phone up, etc.

Do I have to set up an online account, phone up, etc. If you want to back Peterborough, Genghis, the best price of 8-1 is currently only available with William Hill and Skybet, their websites are Willhill.com and skybet.com, i have accounts with both but rarely use Skybet as they limit my bets, they are an internet only company. William Hill obviously have numerous shops around the country so you would not need to open an account with them, however their 'in shop' prices are often much lower than their internet prices, so you might need to open an account with them to get the 8-1 price. Dont forget if you do open an account, Sky bet offer odds on televised matches and GP's only in this country as a rule, but do offer 'in running' prices and heat betting. William Hill only bet on televised matches, with no in running markets. If you want to bet on non-televised matches or Polish and Swedish matches, Bet365 or Stan James are the best around.
