Good to see you haven't deserted PePe. I'm still a big fan, but this list was completely objective with no favouritism given to PePe...I just think he deserves his place in there based on his league form last year, especially in the Swedish Elite league. I was delighted to see some comments attributed to him this week sayng that he was going to focus on his individual performances in 2009...Maybe he's ready to battle back into the SGP ;D

Maybe he's ready to battle back into the SGP ;D Well, he'll have to battle. I can't see PePe being shown any charity by either the GP powers that be, or the Polish authorities, who seem to view PePe as being in the past.

Totally agree. He will need to do it through the GP Challenge, which seems unlikely with it's venue this year....Last year was a bigger chance with the Challenge on his home town track, but he blew it early in the year.
His performances last time he was in the circus made sure that he will never be given any free place for the rest of his career.

Probably still the only man to fall off on the way round to the startline . ;D

I've got a soft spot for Pepe - he stuck around until the end of our 2007 abortive EL season.
I remember a superb bit of kidology from him & Johno at Eastbourne. It had been pissing down, and it looked unlikely whether the Heat 12 cut-off point could be reached.
In Heat 10, Johno & Pepe delayed going out on track - in the meantime, Kennett & Bridger were being cocky little shits (as usual), going around the sodden track popping wheelies.
Johno & Pepe both show on the track with the clock almost at 0:00, fly out of the gate, and leave Kennett & Bridger completely filled in on the way to Oxford 5-1 that all but clinches the bonus point. Great stuff.

I've got a soft spot for Pepe Now there's a shock, Genghis having a soft spot for someone who wore the Dibley Silver Machine Leopard race jacket.

Probably still the only man to fall off on the way round to the startline . ;D That was good, but not quite as good as Hans Nielsen pushing the tapes and then managing to fall off during the 1984 World Pairs final.

I have to say that Pepe is one of the most seriously good looking speedway riders, and we love him at Ippo, from March until August ;D

Sub, incorrect, Hans Nielsen did not fall at any time during the 1984 World Pairs Final. I would expect a stickler for accuracy such as yourself to get your facts right. (I think you'll find it was the 1983 World Pairs Final).

Ah, but so did Rosco, didn't he? And so did Jesper B. But we'll have to let Hatcham off - the old boy is getting forgetful these days.

I can't question the forgetful jibe Atilla, the brain is getting more addled by the day, however i did not claim you had a soft spot for everyone who wore the famous Dibley colours, merely that it was no surprise to see your support of an ex Gold Machine rider.

Sub, but that was before Nielsen donned the world famous Dibley colours. ;D And even the world's best is allowed the odd slip-up - I think Nielsen more than made up for the above error when he broadsided his bike and stopped his machine on a sixpence, after Kai Niemi fell right in front of him at Ipswich at 1988. It's a shame a video of that incident doesn't exist - it was a truly remarkable piece of bike control. I think Gollob choose a great rider to be his idol and base his style on.
