This has been taken from the BSF, Wilko puts the riders perspective over whether the D/U should just be Brits:
Hi there all looking from the inside as a brit rider i see things from all angles so to speake. When it came to the subject of over seas riders i myself have been left out of teams in all leauges. As of why , because there have been new overseas riders come in , i can only put this down to clubs building a relationship with clubs where there new riders have come from and there for get the cream of the young crop that is comeing into the sport not just from the uk but also overseas?? when i was frozen out of the prem leauge for half the season i know that it would have cost less for them to pay my points and travel etc etc than some of the overseas riders points , travel , air fairs , than those rideing in the potions i would have filled and i have to say i was quite put out. When it comes to double up places this it is the best way and the only way for young brits to make the move to the elite as we wouldnt be able to cope with the running costs. If you take a good look at the sponcers on all bikes you find the brits are the ones with the least backing behind them as the overseas riders bring a lot of there equipment with them and a lot of there backing to. Lets face it this country isnt the richest is it and geting a firm to hand over there hard earnd money to help a rider is not as easy as it sounds beleave me!!!!! . So this is the reason us brits need these double up roles so much , The more we ride the better we get and the more money we can put into our bikes and equipment and become a full time rider to rase our selfs and our equipment to the elite level. I myself still work full time as an engineer this pays for my everyday life you know the score , morgage clothing the kids and putting food on the table. If i were to double up full time and ride 4 nights a week it would let me just race my bike as the extra money would be there to let just focus on my sport and you know the more you ride the better you get and the better you get the more you move up in the sport its a win win situation.
Best Wishes Carl Wilkinson
