Announced tonight:- Steve Johnston Emil Kramer Simon Walker Cory Gathercole Brendan Johnson I had a feeling Steve Johnston would end up at Somerset - I even posted that on the Monarchs Chatzone. Wish I'd posted it here now; I'd have looked clever.

From www.speedwayworld.comThe Somerset ‘Sharp’ Rebels have concluded an agreement with Jay Herne to be the team’s second ‘double-up’ reserve rider alongside Brendan Johnson in their 2009 line up.
“Jay is delighted to be joining Somerset,” said the club’s General Manager, David Croucher, “and has already stated that it is ambition to finish the season in the main body of the team and not as reserve.”
“After spending the best part of the last two seasons at Weymouth, Jay had a taste of life in the Premier League with Birmingham in the latter half of 2008, both of which has given him a good grounding in British speedway as well as helping him to learn some of the tracks.”
“I have known Jay since he first arrived in the UK,” Croucher continued, “when he originally was helping out Craig Boyce whilst having the occasional ride, and since then I have seen a distinct improvement in both his riding and his confidence as demonstrated with him qualifying for the Australian Championships when riders of the calibre of James Holder and Richard Sweetman failed to do so, all of which leads me to believe that Jay is more than capable of achieving his goal of moving out of the reserve berth to finish the season in the main body of the team.”
“Both Jay and I know that the continued working relationship with Craig Boyce can only be of benefit to him, as will the fact that he will continue to live with the former Weymouth and Rye House rider, Terry Day and his family in Dorset. Again, I am sure that the stability of a good home base and an extended family here in the UK will assist Jay in having a good, successful, season with the Rebels.”

From the BSPA:
STEVE Johnston has become a full-time Somerset asset after the club agreed to buy his contract from the British Speedway Promoters’ Association.
And Johnston has agreed a deal to keep him at the club in 2010 and 2011.
He said: “Everything has been great since I first came to Somerset and I can’t see why I can’t be with them for the rest of my career.”
