Time has come to ditch the current league names, elite ? premier ? my arse.
I am starting a one man campaign to use more sensible names such as British league division 1, division 2 etc.
anyone agree ?

I agree with you.. but my only concerns would be the costs of rebranding! and how would those buffoons at sky take to a new name?

Logic dictates that it would be a sensible move...........and I use those titles when I record my statistics anyway.

I think 'division' implies some sort of relationship between each level, which isn't really the case in British speedway. Something like 'League 1', 'League 2' and 'League 3' would be better.

You should direct your campaign at PL promotions then as it is they and they alone who refuse to re-brand the league names, the EL promotions would be more than happy to re-brand to anything.

Thanks for the information, i'm sure you realize my campaign is somewhat tongue in cheek, especially as i am far too lazy to actually do anything about it, but it does make me cringe when Pearson starts 'bigging' up the elite, which makes us all look rather lame.

OK, I reckon the leagues should be called:
British Premier League (currently the Elite League) British League Division One (Premier League) British League Division Two (National League) British League Division Three (Academy League, which should be reinstated in the second half at all tracks) British League Division Four (second half competition involving U15 riders only)

The above is way it's done in the 21st century Kev. Even if it would bugger up your stats. ;D

So your Division One would actually be Division Two. Remember who your 'talking' to Kev, you didn't really expect any sense from old Genghis did you ? Stop being so old school. The above way is the modern way of doing things, whilset still making more sense than the current naming system where the middle tier is called the Premier League. Seems to me that there isn't really an Elite League anymore, so British Premier League is a more sensible name for the top league, and the leagues going downwards should then be named 1,2, etc as is the modern convention. These days, that's the way to do it. You and Kev need to get out of the ark.

Climb on board Genghis its starting to rain Stop trying to deflect the discussion elsewhere. We are talking about the naming of the league. And the modern way to do it is to call the top division something along the lines of Premier League and then have the other leagues 1,2,3 etc. It may not be the way they did it in 1947, but it's no longer 1947,

It certainly is not 1947, that year saw the greatest two riders of all time plying their trade, as opposed to now where we cant even find a rider better than Nicki Pedersen, makes you realize how weak speedway currently is.
