I believe that the teams finishing 1st and 2nd progress straight through to the semi finals. The 3rd placed team then gets to choose their opponent from one of the three teams who finished 4th-6th. After that I don't know.
Sorry Kev

According to Speedway Star, in summary: Top two seeded to Semi-finals All matches over two legs Q-Finals will work like this. 3rd place team chooses opponents and all matches will have a weighting applied. Similarly the semi's. Weightings are - team in 1st +10, 2nd +6, 3rd +4 and 4th +2. For example - if the 3rd place team races the 6th place team in the q-final they will start with a 4pt advantage. The other q-final would see the 4th placed team start 2pts to the good. In the semi's the top club chooses opponents, if they choose 4th they'll start with an 8pt advantage (their +10 minus the 4th place team's +2). The final is a straight 2 leg aggregate match. Imagine the 4th place team winning both legs of the semi and still not going through ;D ;D Genius!

Schumi, can we have a banging my head on the desk until my head starts to bleed, please No, but don't let that stop you. ;D I won't. It's bloody unbelieveable, though. There's a huge chance that a team finishing fifth (mid-table) or sixth (BELOW mid-table) could win the play-offs. Was is the fucking point of attending the regular Elite League meetings? Why don't they go the whole bloody hog and have the top nine qualify for the play-offs?

Interesting quote on the BSF re the play-offs: "It's going to be a race for mediocrity until August. Then the clubs will, no doubt, be falling over each other trying to sign up the GP riders as the GP riders fall over each other to get back into British Speedway to top up their salary towards the end of the season." Interesting quote. Unfortunately these people do not understand that there is no money in Speedway and virtually every EL team loses money or makes a minimal profit, so unless 9 teams collectively win the lottery, that is not going to happen. Every other country has six teams in the play off's, it works well, are we that scared of change? The problem with a lot of these people is that no matter what the BSPA do, they are negative towards it and if the BSPA did nothing they would be slated for doing nothing. I'm not saying everything is fine and dandy with the BSPA but there is a lot of stuff that happens behind the scenes that people don't see. There is no magic bullet to solve Speedway's problems, despite what many on the BSF would appear to think. At the end of the day and even more so in the current economic climate, we are fortunate to have any Speedway at all. comments anyone

In response to Bratters' post on the Peterborough forum:
Personally I would like to see very radical changes to speedway, so I'm not afraid of change. I would go as far as changing the number of heats in a meeting and the number of laps in a race and follow the Cricket 20-20 example.
I'd like to see 25 to 30 heats consisting of two laps each, as almost over the racing happens on the opening two laps. Run a race every 3 minutes. 25 to 30 first bends in an half-and-a-hour - how exciting would that be?
Also admission prices should be slashed to a maximum of £10 for a league meeting - the public are going to have very little disposable income and £15-16 is far, far too expensive for an average family.
But the current changes simply seem to be tinkering at the edges, will not encourage new fans, and indeed will drive many current fans away.
Why on earth have six out of nine teams in the Elite League play-offs, and also take away home advantage in the play-offs?
It does two things: 1. Makes the preceeding 32-match regular EL programme almost pointless. 2. Leaves things very, very open to average manipulation. Why not get off to a slow start to the season, then bring in a couple of top guys as the points limit shifts (another daft rule), finish fifth in the league and then win the play-offs?
I appreciate, Bratters, that the promoters are trying to do something. But stop tinkering with the rules and make actual proper changes to the league set-ups and the number of races in a meeting.
And one more thing: get rid of the bloody tactical ride. It makes the sport look like "It's A Knockout". I hate it with a passion.
