All sorts of rumour floating about on this one, but news from www.plymouthdevils.co.uk/index.php?name=News&file=article&sid=133 is:
ADAM Roynon has ridden his last race for Plymouth. The 2006 Conference League Riders Champion has been placed on a 28-day ban by Plymouth after making himself unavailable for Sunday’s Conference League match at Rye House in controversial circumstances.
After telling Plymouth on the morning of Monday July 30 that he would ride at Rye House, Roynon effectively ruled himself out of consideration for that meeting in a phone call from his father, Chris, to Plymouth club chairman Mike Bowden the following evening.
The Plymouth promotion also claim that Roynon approached Conference League rivals Oxford stating, incorrectly, that he was a free agent.
Bowden has issued the following statement to explain the situation:
“After being told by Adam Roynon last Monday morning (July 30) that he could ride for Plymouth at Rye House I then declared the Plymouth team to Len Silver naming Adam Roynon at number one.
“On Tuesday evening I had a call from Chris Roynon telling me that if Adam could not ride at Plymouth on Friday he would not ride on Sunday at Rye House.
“I told him I had already declared my team for Friday and Adam would only ride if Tom Brown was unfit.
“Chris told me if Adam did not ride on Friday it would be difficult for him to ride against his own team on Sunday as Len Silver was not happy about it.
“As I have known Len Silver for many years, I phoned him and explained the situation to him. He was surprised as he had no problem with Adam riding against Rye House Raiders.
"It was Len who gave me permission to use Adam this season in the Conference League. It would have been the same situation as Tai Woffinden riding against Rye House for Scunthorpe on July 27.
“I then heard a whisper that Oxford wanted Adam Roynon. I phoned Allen Trump of Oxford, who told me Roynon had approached Oxford five weeks ago.
“Allen Trump and Peter Oakes said if Plymouth no longer wanted him, they would be happy to sign him, but only if he was released from the Plymouth one to 10.
“Apparently one of the Roynons contacted Oxford on Wednesday, August 1, and told them he was now a free agent, which was totally incorrect.
“He was told Oxford would check with me first if, indeed, I had released him. After talking to Allen Trump it seems that one of the Roynons has been telling some outright lies.
“I then spoke to Peter Morrish, the Conference League co-ordinator, told him the story, and put a 28-day ban on Adam Roynon.
“I do not like being lied to and feel sorry for Tim Farrell of Lipson Vale Garage who sign-wrote Roynon’s van free of charge and Darren Fletcher, the Plymouth pits marshal, who obtained four sponsored crash helmets for Adam Roynon from Wulf Sport on the understanding he would be a Plymouth rider in 2007.
“I also feel sorry for the Plymouth supporters who have supported Roynon during his time here with fuel, oil and tyres etc.”
Roynon, 18, joined Plymouth during the close season and has been averaging 9.17 for the Devils, but has ridden in only five official meetings, the last being at Weymouth on June 16.
