Here's an extract from Cookie's speach at the awards, courtesy of Speedway Star......... ".........we've had a brilliant year and I want to thank everyone at Lakeside for their help because we've got a fantastic infrastructure at our track. We've doubled the crowd and we've doubled the season ticket holders over the last two years and we want to keep it going. We are all in it together, it's the most fantastic sport, speedway, and if we all remain positive to the outside world, then we'll build a brilliant sport together."How many other tracks can boast they've doubled their attendances in the last two years...........not many would be my guess...........so clearly there's a lesson to be learned from watching the way Stanley and Cookie go about their business.

Congratulations to the Lakeside Promotion. Isn't it cheering to hear good things about Lakeside, after their years in the doldrums? Amazing what a change of promotion can do!

Fair play to Stuart Douglas & Jon Cook, probably the most progressive promoting partnership within the sport.
The real test comes in 2009, though - especially if the team is not as successful on track. Can they make sure the crowds don't drift away again? It'll be interesting to see what they come up with.

Don't want to rain on your parade Kev, because I agree Jon and Stuart have done wonders for those "pesky 'Ammers", however it surely wasn;t too hard to double the fan base, as RR certainly was magnificent in dragging them to near oblivion . That said, their buying of assets has proved very schrewd and successful, and hopefully that damn "injury curse" will soon leave the M25 and a complete team of 'Ammers can take to the track for the whole of 2009.

You can rain all you like Badger, it will just hit my parade and turn into condensation. Funny you mention RR........I had a long chat him a few weeks ago and it's clear the guy really does have a passion for Arena/Lakeside, but unfortunately for him he didn't have the resources or business acumen to do himself justice. I certainly agree about our luck with injuries though.....hopefully this year Lady Luck will be smiling on us and we'll get to see the fruits of Stanley and Cookie's labour.

No-one doubts his enthusiasm Kev, it was his ineptitude and total lack of ability to run an EL club that shone through, and obviously having a complete TWONK as a brother didn't help, however not once did I ever hear that he had failed to pay his riders ;D, so he couldn't have been all bad . Just made it easier for these 2 to make a big impact I feel.

Well, working on your theory, old Threeawards and Ric Frost should attract crowds of 10-20,000 per meeting next season and Panthers should dominate the Elite League. ;D
